The "Ñ" is of Spanish decent and is not used for US documentation purposes. Just like their are symbols in most languages, USCIS is after "plain vanilla" as it works the best. If you read all of the different Embassy Letters I post here for others, it states that all documents must be in English. Hence the answer I gave you. This process is so easy especially for the Philippines. In all my years I have seen things similar to this and they never amount to anything. The CO's at the USEM aren't monsters. If you are honest and you can answer their questions, you're going to be all right. I have gotten a number of Pina's who where just as worried about something contained with in their document and I assured them it was not going to effect the outcome. Most can be fixed at the interview. And when they walk out of USEM with a visa approval, it's not long after that they are on VJ thanking me and telling me how right I was.

Go over to the Philippine sub-forum if you don't believe what I am saying and see what your answer will be. :pop:I'll be waiting.

Ok thanks I believe you.  So I guess we are worrying about nothing then so we will just keep proceeding as normal.  Thanks again and sorry we doubted you.

It's a very daunting process because of all the "unknown" steps and we don't want to make a mistake. But there is a limit to what needs to be done over the phone, by email, by mail and in front of the CO at the interview. Most little things can be answered or corrected at the interview and correcting items at the interview is not going to get you denied. The CO's knows things get twisted or missed. They have seen most all things and know how to get to the answer.

The two of you should relax and stay focus. If you follow everything in the instructions that I referred you to, you will be fine. That's why I and others share their time to HELP. We've been there. Trust the process.

So take a deep breath and make this fun again.

They don't care. Symbols in names are typically ignored. Will NOT effect the issues of a visa.

@Tokenfreak - For what it's worth, my fiancée has a special character in her legal name because she has a Tamil name with "d/o" (daughter of) in it.  (It's a "Her Given Name d/o Her Father's Name" format, so she doesn't have a traditional Western last name.  In her signature, she really only signs her given name!)  I was very concerned about this when it showed up as "D O" on NOA1.  But we got NOA2 last week with no problems.

June 2016: We started writing to each other

June-July 2017: Met in person in the US for our first anniversary

December 2017 - January 2018: Met again in the US and got engaged

01/09/2018: I-129F sent to the USCIS Dallas Lockbox via FedEx

01/16/2018: Received NOA1 (NOA1 notice date: 01/11/2018)

June-July 2018: Met in person in Singapore and Australia for our second anniversary

08/03/2018: Notice date on our NOA2 (updated in USCIS's new website on August 6)

08/15/2018: Our case reached NVC

08/22/2018: Received NVC case number

09/04/2018: Our package left NVC (arrived 9/11, and she sent packet 3 that day)

09/20/2018: Received packet 4; scheduled interview

10/30/2018: Interview - told that we're approved!  Now waiting to receive the visa...
11/27/2018: Port of Entry at BWI

12/1/2018: Our wedding!

12/8/2018: Filed AoS on the way to our honeymoon (12/8-15/2018)
6/~7/2019: EAD and AP approved
09/25/2019: AOS interview in Orlando -- approval and green card!

Next step, June 2019: Filing I-751

Note: My wife is a Singaporean.  She moved to Australia before we met and got permanent residency there.

Your partially correct. There are two numbers in addition to the others.

First, don't begin calling for 10 business days after you get your text message (NOA2). Second, you will need the Petitioner's and Beneficiaries full name and date of birth.

Call 603-334-0700 or 603-334-0888 Be prepared for a wait. Tell the operator that you are requesting a case number for your K-1. They will ask for the receipt number located on the left top of your I-797 (NOA2) form. Then he/she will either tell you that they have not received your case or you will be asked for the names and date of birth. If they don't have the case, you will be told it can take 30 to 45 days for them to receive it and to wait however many days/weeks and call back. That's a pad answer so ignore it. You can call back the next day or as often as you want. NVC's hours are 7am to 12 am (midnight) eastern time. Monday through Friday except Federal Holidays. Calling early at 7 am on the dot will get you in the fastest or calling late the lines to be open most often.

When you have your case number, enter it here https://ceac.state.g...ker/status.aspx and it will tell you one of three things... At NVC, In Transit, or Ready.

Thanks for this, @Greenbaum We have just joined this thread! NOA2 was yesterday.  Our consulate is Auckland, which probably processes fewer K-1s than many.

Hey everyone!

We're starting to gather our supporting docs for the I-134 and want to know if we are on the right track. I keep seeing different info for active duty military. My petitioner is in the USAF.  So far we have his Proof of Service letter, last 3 W2s, IRS Tax Transcript and last 6 LES. Does anyone know if we're missing anything? Thanks in advance!!

I am curious now, but you didn't complete the explanation when you said "But we got NOA2 last week with no problems." So was the format "Her Given Name d/o Her Father's Name" on the NOA 2 or something else?

I am Norwegian and in the past they used to take the "farm name" as the last name and added "son" or "daughter" to the middle name with the father's name as the beginning followed by son or datter. So Ole is the first name, Eivend is the Fathers first name and then add son and then the farm name Oberget. Something similar to Gunild and Johns daughter farm name Oberget.

  Ole Eivindson Oberget
  Gunild Johnsdatter Oberget

My wife is Filipino and their names sometimes are - two first names (Mothers Maiden Name for the middle name and then the father's family name (last name).  But anyway I digress.

What I have on New Zealand, which isn't much is the following (someone had given this information to me):

Important: Police certificates expire after one year, unless the certificate was issued from your country of previous residence and you have not returned there since the police certificate was issued. If at the time of your interview the following three items are all true, you must bring a new police certificate to your visa interview:

  • You are more than 16 years old;
  • The police certificate submitted to NVC was obtained more than one year ago; and
  • You still live in the country that issued the certificate.

We applied for her certificates just this month, because she needed one from Japan from a foreign exchange trip and that one is supposed to take 2-3 months.

https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate/family/fiance-k-1.html#6  that's a list of the documents needed for the visa. Make sure you figure out where the approved doctor is that can do his medical, I know on the South island the only one located in Christchurch... Better than Auckland when fiancée is in Dunedin but still XD

I'd like a copy of the P3 interview letter so that I can share it with others when they process behind you. Can you PM me with a copy when you get it? Thanks.

Following this post! My fiancé is in the Marine Corp and we are also confused about what proof to bring with the affidavit of support.

They listed it as "Her Father's Name, Her Given Name D O" without the slash in d/o.  I wrote more details about this in another thread after NOA1.

  • You are more than 16 years old;
  • The police certificate submitted to NVC was obtained more than one year ago; and
  • You still live in the country that issued the certificate.

Thanks.

Will do.  Thanks, @Greenbaum.  Luckily, he knows exactly where he will do his medical in Auckland.  Even knows one of the docs in that practice.  Small country.   :-)

Hi. I was just wondering if anyone in here has managed to get their new case number yet from NVC? Was just wondering what the wait time for that is currently. We didn’t get our NOA2 until 7th August so I suspect it’s too early for us yet, but curious is anyone in the week before us has got theirs yet 😊

Hi everyone, first time poster, long time lurker.

I'm sure this information is available somewhere on the forum but I haven't been able to find it via my poking around. What exactly is the protocol when calling NVC to ask for your case number? I know it's still too early for me to call in earnest but I tried for the other time just out of curiosity and none of the prerecorded options seemed applicable.

Thank you.
