Oh, we're in Administrative Processing.   CEAC says it can be "several weeks", but she's supposed to go visit her parents overseas in a couple weeks and our wedding is scheduled for 4 weeks from tomorrow!

 

They told my fiancee at the interview that our case was approved, and they didn't have her hand over much of any of the big folder of evidence that I took 6 weeks to prepare!

When the Embassy is ready to issue a visa, it will change to "Nonimmigrant Visa Application"; at that time, you will know that you are a few days away from getting the visa. It will go from "Immigrant Visa Application" to "Nonimmigrant Visa Application" status and then your visa changes to "Ready" ==> "Administrative Processing" ==>> "Issued" status as well. These steps sometimes transpire over a day or even a few days. Some smaller Embassy's it happens within hours.

 

Sometimes, it might skip "Administrative Processing" and go from "Ready" to "Issued".

 

Normal processing of the visa after the interview is within hours to 2 weeks. Yes some can be longer and we have seen up to a year. Making plans until such time as you have the visa in your hands is not the best move. I think most Embassy's will show that in the P3 letter with the following disclaimer: 

 

Do not finalize arrangements for travel to the United States, dispose of property, or resign from your job until a visa has been issued and delivered to you. Generally, a single-entry fiancé(e) (K1) nonimmigrant visa is valid for six months from the date of issuance, unless its validity is limited by medical or other restrictions.

 

The volume of information that you have gathered for the interview does not constitute a rush on your visa.

CEAC says our visa status is now Issued!   Another step in the right direction towards being together again.  Hopefully my fiancee will get the visa and her passport back before the date that she's thinking of traveling overseas to see her parents.

Here is the letter that you will receive from Mumbai Embassy. Read it over carefully and follow the instructions. Another member of VJ added some additional information contained below which outlines what he experienced.

Once you received your case number from NVC,  I would recommend you fill out DS-160 form and submit. Some say the packet 3 letter is nothing just waste of time same thing they have mention which you easily get from USCIS website when you called to the clinics to book your medical appointment date they will ask you have you received your packet letter or not. Just say yes and booked the appointment date however you will receive that letter within 2 weeks the day you will get your NVC number.

Go on USCIS website make your account with password and then pay your fees to Citibank or Axis bank. They will give you reference number. With that number you can book your biometric and interview appointment date. The fees are 18,500 and for medical but I recommend that you carry 20,000 with you in the event you need more. Be sure to  keep at least 7 days gap between medical and interview.
