Hi VJ'ers

I am divorcee and plan on marrying my fiancee in Vietnam, is all I need to bring is just my certified copy of my divorce decree and bring that to the US embassy with the form Affidavit of Single Status notarized? Just wanted to know who are divorce and knew what to bring with them?

Thanks

I can tell you my experience. We did the K-1. She (VN) was never married, so did not have to supply anything to prove it. However, there is some type of "single, never married" document in Vietnam that can be obtained, but we were told that not necessary if never married. Maybe, to be safe, she should try to obtain something proving that she was never married before.

I was divorced, so I supplied a copy of the notarized "official" court document of my divorce decree - the whole thing, not just a front and back page - when I filed the initial USCIS paperwork. I took the "official" stamped/sealed divorce decree with me to the interview in Saigon. I'm glad I did because they asked for it.

To summarize, you will need to prove that you are divorced. Your county clerk can provide you with a stamped/notarized copy of your divorce decree/dissolution. That official copy goes with you to Saigon. I hope you are going to the interview - very important in Vietnam. The U.S. consulate office is a crazy place, so well worth the trip. And if you are there, almost guaranteed a visa. I don't think she needs anything, since she was never married. But if she can get something from her province office, then maybe safe to have. She should bring it to the interview.

Hope that helps. Good luck!
