I agree with you, legal immigrants pay taxes.  Not so sure about illegal immigrants.

If the undocumented worker is paying rent or buying goods.

They are, in fact, paying taxes.

I really don't get this Argument though, trump constantly brags about how he doesn't pay taxes. Yet, he's the president.

But you have a problem with documented immagrants (who pay their taxes) voting in local elections.

How is paying rent equal to paying taxes?

Property taxes are paid through the landlord. its always factored into the rental price.

So how does that work in cases where the landlord accepts alternative payments?

Idk,

I'm not fluent in the sacred arts of conspiracy.

But I would assume that it works the same way as hard cash. Tennant transfers value to landlord. Landlord transfers value to local municipalities in the form of taxes.

Yep, the IRS has rules to cover almost everything you could imagine. Goods, services, property or anything else exchanged by barter is considered taxable income at fair market value.

Yeah, so the immigrant wouldn't have residency... therefore they would not be eligible to vote in their respective district.

So there would be no argument.

And this is why I always love your input.

True enough.  But doesn’t mean that those goods, services, and bartering are taxed properly, if at all.

As for Keith - If a person pays sales tax (as you and I do), and pays rent (as many do), but gets paid under the table (as most illegals and some legal immigrants do), are they paying the same amount of taxes as you and I?  Seems to me like they are getting an (illegal) tax break.

Heck, I remember as a teenager, I was dating a girl whose father (US-born fellow) refused to pay taxes.  He claimed exempt at work, and didn’t file a return for the many years I knew him, until his death.  Seems strange now that I think about it, but somehow he got away with it.
