USCIS using our fees for grants instead of solving the backlog problem

Scrolling through the net headlines and......What did I just read!?!?! Apparently, the USCIS is going to grant $10 Million in assistance for LEGAL PERMANENT RESIDENTS (as in - already here, already legal, not part of the illegal immigration problem, not under threat of deportation unless there is a valid reason) to get financial assistance in applying for Citizenship.  They said they will use "fees collected" by USCIS to fund this.

Wait a minute...my understanding was that those fees were to support the Administrative process of our applications.  They are STILL grossly backlogged and can't handle the current load of applications, even after a 21% fee increase.  Why are they "granting" this money to fund even more applications instead of hiring and training more staff to process the existing workload????

Oh - wait - this makes more citizens who can vote.....

The fees that we've paid are going to be used for nothing more than political gain rather than actually solving USCIS's major backlog problem that is affecting so existing US Citizens terribly!

After looking into it further - this is apparently a common thing - USCIS Grants for "assimilation" of "legal permanent residents" into "the fabric of American society".  So they have been using our fees for grants to create more immigrant voters rather than actually managing the business of the forms those fees are attached to....this sickens me to no end

In this part of the forum we usually post a link to a news article and then we discuss it. Where's the link to this that you're ranting about?

immigrant voters

They're called citizens, at least in polite society.

There is a distinct difference between a USC and a immigrant voter.  Just sayin’.

An immigrant who has been naturalized and votes is a citizen. The context of the OP's post is that the USCIS program creates "immigrant voters" by providing naturalization support to those who are eligible to apply for citizenship, and that somehow that is reprehensible because... ?

The point of the USCIS program is to assist organizations that provide citizenship support services, like ESL and tools in assimilating to the American way of life, and how to navigate the citizenship application process, to people who are eligible to become citizens. Education must be in English. If one is eligible for citizenship, and one elects to become a citizen, then becoming a voter at the completion of the process of naturalization is rather non-controversial. At least in polite society.

Edit: removed confusing part of speech for clarity.

That is exactly what I said, just with more words.

There is not. An immigrant voter, by definition, must be a US citizen.

That's changing.

Non-citizens legally register to vote in San Francisco school elections

There is a third class of voter also. You have citizen voters, immigrant voters and illegal alien voters (illegal aliens are not immigrants). In the future democrats will become more and more dependent on that third type of voter.

Caucasians will be a minority in the USA by 2045. Instead of propagating myths about the Democrats, I suggest Republicans figure out a way to reach out and be inclusive of more people, and specifically more minorities. Democrats and Republicans both have issues they need to work on. Rhetoric won't fix all of them.

Equating being inclusive with wanting a free lunch is indicative of the issues the Republicans will be facing as time goes on. Fortunately some members of the party leadership get it. Hopefully the rest will figure it out.
