Hi, I am a US citizen married 4 years to a Brit and living in England. We now want to retire to Florida. I am new to this site and keep seeing references to 'touches'. Please can you tell me what that means? Do you know if there is a place on the net where we can go and see what the status is of our application. We do have a case number finally after 4 months of waiting. I would appreciate any info you want to share. Also, how do I do a time line? REALLY a newbie here!!! LOL

Hello and welcome!

To check the status of your application online, you will need to creat a 'Customer Portfolio Account' here: https://egov.immigration.gov/cris/jsps/index.jsp

A touch may mean that your application got worked on, but it could also mean that it was simply moved from one pile to another.. you know you got a touch when the date in the 'Last updated' column changes.

You can learn most of what you need by reading the appropriate guides. I would both encourage and caution you about checking your status online. There really isn't any meaningful information available to you between filing and approval of petitions. You may see several touches and not know what they mean or absolutely no touches. I encourage you to get set up to see your status online because you must do so in order to receive email updates. You probably will receive only one update but it will be the one telling you your petition is approved.

Remember, you have not applied for a visa yet. You've only filed a petition requesting that your spouse be allowed to apply for a visa at a Consulate in the UK.

Please complete your timeline. You say you are petitioning for K3 visa but the timeline only reflects an I-130 petition, which is step one for a K3 visa but will, alone, put you on the path of an IR1 visa, not K3.
