Make Certain That USCIS Has Your Proper Address!!!

I read from some people that setting up a redirect won't work for the green card package because there's no forwarding service requested on it. It either gets delivered to the old address or if your mailman notices the name on the old box doesn't match, it gets returned to USCIS. Maybe @geowrian could confirm that :D

It's part of the reason I haven't moved out of where I live yet.

Typically the mail sent by USCIS has a "no forward" classificationIn which case, what should happen is the mail gets returned to USCIS, who then updates the case status to show that a document was returned due to non-delivery. Of course that doesn't always happen...sometimes the case status doesn't updated, or they just plain don't know if the mail got returned to sender.

I'm moving out soon, so this is one of my biggest concerns immigration-wise, actually. I already gave a heads up to the mailman and landlord about it, but who knows how much that will do.

If you see OP's post it said it was left in the mailbox, thus a signature was not requested.

That was why I got confused because sometime ago, I read on USCIS website that a signature will be required. I was worried of missing mine if I am not home to sign for it. So it’s good if it can still be delivered in the mail box.

We moved out just after interview approval but the landlord said not to worry he would grab our mail and forward it to us so there was no hassle trying to change info with USCIS. Landlord collected the mail then text to say he'd lost it -.- Fortunately I pestered and he went looking for it, found it in his recycling! -.- I was kinda on the mortified end of the scale.

Here's hoping your landlord is way more awesome. *nervous laugh*

This is one of my biggest worries about USCIS. We moved in Dec 2017 and changed our address within 10 days online. I changed my address with USCIS through the mail because I am a sponsor to my husband (immigrant), but my husband changed the address using the online form and received a confirmation email. We didn't think that the immigrant could use the mail change of address. Now we would like to change the address through the mail for him (as people here have suggested), but it is way past 10 days and that could cause trouble (even though we did do it online, but many people are saying this doesn't always work)??

Not sure why so many have an issue on this. We didnt but maybe we were just lucky.  Changed it online only and everything came to the new address.

I think it depends on the carrier.  When my husband's green card arrived, the carrier came to the door.  I answered the door and the carrier asked if he lived there.  I said "Yes," and asked if he needed to come to the door or sign for it.  The carrier said that wasn't necessary.  He just handed me the envelope.  Given that he came to the door, I suspect that if we weren't still living at that address, he would have returned the green card to USCIS.

We've moved twice after filing for AOS (and after my husband received his green card).  Both times, my husband updated his address online, but as the USC, I could only update my address by U.S. mail.  We've had no issues with him receiving mail from USCIS.

Yup. We did the online address change for my wife a few weeks before moving to our new home, last November. She received her notice for ROC at the new address in May. I didn't even realize that I needed to submit a paper notice as the sponsor, until a few weeks ago; I've since done that and received the notice of receipt.

Yes, we moved a few months after filing AOS and then we received the interview notice at the new address and at the interview they had our updated address.

Maybe in the future, https://www.uscis.gov/forms/forms-information/how-track-delivery-your-green-card-employment-authorization-document-ead-and-travel-document:

Quote

Note: We’re implementing USPS’ Signature Confirmation Restricted Delivery in phases for the mailing of Green Cards, EADs, and Travel Documents. We will begin with documents that need to be re-mailed because they have been returned to us as undeliverable.

With Signature Confirmation Restricted Delivery, you or your designated agent (PDF) will need to present valid identification and sign for the package in person. USPS accepts the following forms of identification:

  • Armed forces, government, university, or recognized corporate identification card
  • Valid driver’s license or non-driver’s identification card
  • Passport or Green Card
  • Current lease, mortgage, or deed of trust
  • Vehicle registration card, or
  • Home or vehicle insurance policy

If you are designating someone to sign for your document and they are a U.S. citizen, they can also show a voter registration card or Certificate of Naturalization.

You can continue to use Informed Delivery to track and manage the delivery of your package.
