There are specific provisions that prevent ANYONE besides you or your attny on file from getting any info on your VAWA case, they wont even acknowledge that you have one. Also USCIS will not consider anything your ex tells them (if he does) when deciding your case. If someone has your vawa paperwork theres not much they can do with it/ they can create an online case tracker and see that stuff but so what? its none of their business and they would be committing a crime but i cant think of any way it could harm you.

Get yourself a safe deposit box at the bank. Small ones are pretty cheap. Or give all your important stuff to someone you trust to hold but your own box is the best option (sometimes the only one we can trust is ourselves) Most importantly get yourself out and away from relatives and friends who are not supportive. Find a room to rent, check by colleges even if you are not in college or college age. talk to the landlord/homeowner and tell your story and see if they would rent you the room even though you dont go to the college. Obviously there is student housing which you dont qualify for- Im talking about homeowners that live near campus and make money by renting out rooms to students. They can rent to anyone they want.

@Damara thank you for the helpful response! I will surely look into the options which you have listed above.

Guys, i am new in this forum.
I suffered  physical, emotional and psychological abuse fron my US citizen wife.

The abuse started November 2017, we met in October 2016,married April 2017. Because of the love i have for her hoping that things will change and her constant threath of calling immigration on me, i could not speak out.

She filled for me, in December 2017 and that was the begining of unending abuse. I have my work permit July 2018, but she eventually abandoned me mid-august and interview for adjustment of status fixed for Monday September 17, is now in jeopardy.

My attorney advised that I file  VAWA i360, to put i485 in abeyance,so as to save my work permit from being cancelled.

So,he quickly filled i360 and after write to USCIS field office that will adjudicate my i485, with a copy of i360 and UPS mail tracker of i360 sent to Vermont, for them to hold my i485 in abeyance, he put it in the letter that he will send the receipt number of i360 to the field office as soon as it is received.

He said he has to do this quiclky so that the interview will not be considered as abandoned and my work permit cancelled.

What is your comment has my attorney did the right thing so far?

Thank you.

It is un predictable you dont know what the officer may say ,, on my interview day iwent alone without my spouse just to let them know that me and me spouse are separeted,, also Ishowed the officer vawa reciept plus prema facie .  But she still denied my 1 485 and my work authorisation was revoked..so it depends on the officer if is good,, its 50 / 50 some are lucky some are not..  Even though Ishowed the officer my vawa papers , the letter they wrote to me was ihave to leave this country voluntarily as soon as possible..

@Bryan,let me tell you something very important, seriously everyone comes to this forum and tell you they send more pages of personal affidavit the truth about it is that is not how many pages you sent,it’s what you wrote and very well explained!!for instance I sent in 4 pages of affidavit and explain everything details and many people here said you must sent evaluation from a psychologist that’s not true too although some people need it,my lawyer didn’t sent mine cus I had hospital records of my health during that period so I will advise you to be patient whatever they need they will send you a rfe!i read a lot of things here and I was so scared almost to the point that I was about doubting my lawyer but my case was approved without any rfe.and it all depends on the person working on ur case.So don’t worry and put your faith in God everything will be alright.Ask Sandra she will help you too

Thanks so much for the advice

Creating an account pretending to be someone else is a crime. It affects people and is fraud and an invasion of privacy. That is NOT right and it harms the victim

Hello Everyone, this is an update

I have posted a question around 8 months ago when the ICE officers came to my house to see if anyone of you had a similar visit, most of you found that strange and only one person here said that they had a visit!

I just want everyone here know that I just discovered that they visited me because my ex husband called them thinking that he would get me in trouble!

and maybe they just visited because he called not sure!

but all I know that they came 2 weeks after he tried to contact me and after I ignored him!

I just went to the court for divorce hearing where he told them that he contacted ICE and USCIS and that he wants an annulment!

they told him to bring a very strong evidence to support his request and they also told him it is going to extremely hard to prove it and the judge is more likely will not approve it.

My ex did all that #######. I didn't have a lawyer but told his lawyer. I ended up better off. Just gather evidence. If you don't have a lawyer and they surprise you in court tell the judge you need time as they didn't inform you. But most lawyers want to meditate. If you need divorce help inbox me. Lawyers can be intimidating. If his lawyer calls and starts to say anything you don't like hang up. My ex's lawyer screamed at me over the phone and I hung up on him 😂😂😂 Threatened creatures attack😉

lol I had an attorney that told me that I didn't have to pay her immediately because of my financial situation and one week before the hearing date she told me either pay or she is not coming I couldn't pay her so I went by my self!

everything went will and my ex husband knew that he is not going to get what he wanted because he know it was not true, the judge judged for divorce but its going to take some to be finalized!

Stay Strong and you will get over it, the court knows that the only reason they do that is to hurt the other person there is no other reason to justify that behavior,

what he is doing is going to coast him a lot of time and money he will eventually give up!

Hello everyone

I applied for EAD at the end of may2018 and did biometrics beginning of July and nothing yet. does anyone know how long should it take?

I had a work permit at the beginning of 2017 but was terminated in June2017 because my ex withdrew my application and the person helped me with VAWA told me that I can't file for EAD until Vawa is approved! and I have been without job, driver license, ID for a over a year and am still waiting:(

thanks to Sandra and most of you in this form I realized that I can apply while waiting for VAWA! it was late but its better to be late then never!

Dear @Damara @sandranj and other members with helpful information,

I filed VAWA last year and I have since then renewed my permit once, this is after I got the original work permit with my new VAWA package which I sent in after abusive ex souse withdrew petition. My question is that although I have moved away from my ex,(we are legally divorced), he is still in touch with some of my friends and relatives. Some of these people are not my well wishers and may be giving him information about me and that I have filed VAWA. The thing is that some of my VAWA mail went missing and I placed it in a secure location so I'm not sure if evil relative has it or even sent it to my ex!  Will this, or naysay from other non-well wishers have an impact in the VAWA decision? I'm currently saving up to get a place of my own so that I may move away from relatives place where I dont feel welcome.

Any helpful response will be appreciated.

If you have  friends and family in touch with him then it’s time for you to stop talking to them!

If you fear for your life go to a shelter for victims of domestic violence. If he knows about your VAWA he won’t be able to do anything about your case.

Thank you. Congratulations on your approval as well. I don’t see what’s holding your approval letter. You should make and info pass appointment.

After approval of Vawa, if you had filed i485 Along with  i360,  they will transfer i485 to NBC after which you will receive your interview appointment date.

If you haven’t file i485 as yet you should go ahead and file as soon as you get your approval letter.

My i485 was filed along my i360. I did a infopass a month later after approval. They said my letter would arrive in a month. so far, it didnt arrive yet. Is the i485 automatic transfer after approval? If yes, i may be hearing from them soon. Our approval dates are about the same.

Thank you

Hello everyone.

I haven't posted in a while. I recieves my interview date for September 28th. This process has taught me how to be patient. 😓 I am so happy, but a bit nervous. Can someone who has already been to their interview tell me what you brought along with you? I got a check list but there is not a topic for  Vawa. Apart from the topic which states ‘DOCUMENTS REQUIRES FOR ALL INTERVIEWS’ is there any thing else that I need to take with me.

thanks for your response.

Congratulations and best of luck on your interview! Please let us know how it went.

Praying for you!

Hey guys!

It’s been a while since I posted. I’m an August 2017 applicant... haven’t had any updates.

I need to renew my EAD I originally got based on I-485, that case is still pending and i did t know I could renew as a vawa applicant... I’m  already divorced from my abusive ex husband.

I was arrested but not charged for domestic violence charge (misdemeanor) when I threw an ashtray at my ex. Case was dismissed as he didn’t press charges.

what are my approval odds for EAD renewal?
