Husband left in waiting room during AOS interview

Hey guys . When I was called in, officer told my husband to stay in the waiting room , so I was interviewed alone . It seemed a bit odd to us, though the interview seemed to have gone ok . Has anyone had this happen as well? Thank you

And I am the petitioner for AOS. I just never read on these forums that only one person be called and husband/wife be in the waiting room during the interview the whole time.

It does seem odd (apart from a Stokes interview) especially when you filed based on marriage and a K1.  Did you get an actual approval?

I don't think I've ever seen it happen this way. Like the previous poster said I've only seen it for Stokes interview. 

 

Maybe a new officer, hopefully that doesn't lead to another interview.

A mystery to me, only time I've heard of the spouse not being expected at the AOS interview is when on active military deployment (other than those AOS'ing under VAWA).

 

Far-reaching speculation would be if the IO got confused himself (maybe new?) and thought he was doing a ROC interview instead of an AOS interview...like I said, far-fetched but I'm trying to wrap my head around possibilities. 

 

Be prepared for the outcome of being called for an interview again.  And if you do get the GC produced from this interview, carefully check it for clerical errors (ie. a 10-year card being produced instead of a 2-year one).

If for some reason there was a 10 year card issued vs a 2 year card, would that be a mistake?  Would you need to inform them and turn it in?

Never heard of just the one spouse being interviewed only, minus the military deployment reason, for married couples.

 

Even with a stoke interview they bring both spouses back together after they've been separated. We went through one of those small "stoke" interview during the AOS, and passed without issues. My wife got an electronic notification of approval within the a few days. Hope you get an answer soon.

It would be a mistake since the OP never did a ROC to get the 10-year card, and is AOS'ing from a K1 visa.

It's been known to come back and bite people later during the N400 stage who have not gotten it corrected and thought they could just "skip"' the ROC portion instead.

In looking at OP’s timeline, it looks like their interview date took only about 2 1/2 months. And then, spouse wasn’t required to be in room for interview. Something is not adding up here. Did OP let interviewer know that spouse was waiting outside?  Very strange....
