Hey. I need a little bit of advice. I just realized that the name on my interview confirmation is wrong (not entirely, It is only showing my mother's last name and it is missing my father's last name). Do you think there is any problem regarding this? Is it possible to change this piece of information? and if so, how?!

I am a nervous fiance and thought I couldn`t mess it up in step number 1.

in my defense, I think that it was the autocomplete in the computer changing things around.

Once the DS-160 has been submitted it cant be changed. Send an email to the embassy. They were very helpful in what we needed to do for a misspelling on the Brazilian passport. I have also read (but don't personally know if this is true) that they can correct it at your biometrics appointment.

ASo I called the phone center of the people who help with the interview and they resubmitted my form to change the name. No change in dates so everything worked out.

Now I have another doubt. The police certificates are a little confusing to me (I am not a native speaker of either portugues or english, so i appreciate any help you can give me with this).

The page in english says:

it is required that the applicant obtain a certificate from the Federal Police. This certificate is valid for all Brazilian territory. You should access www.dpf.gov.br to request this document

The page in portuguese says:

É requerido um atestado de bons antecedentes da Polícia Federal. Basta a emissão de somente um atestado da policia federal, pois o mesmo é válido para todo o território nacional. O solicitante deverá comparecer ao Departamento de Polícia Federal, DELINST  Delegacia de Defesa Institucional e preencher um requerimento para o Atestado.

and the page email says:

  • Atestado de Bons Antecedentes da Polícia Federal, recente.

My question is: is antecedentes criminaris, atestado de bons antecedentes and Certidão de Vida Privada the same thing?!!

I went to the civil police and asked for a antecedentes criminais and they gave me a document that says:

"declaracao" only. is this the correct one?!

Do any of you have any tips? the email they sent me about the police certificates just confused me more.

Hi all! We're getting ready for the interview next week. I'm looking over people's reviews on the consulate and there was a comment on there about people not bringing a copy of things and needed to make them outside the building. Can anyone clarify for me what needs to be provided in original & copy and what is needed "just in case"? For example, should we bring the beneficiary's passport and a copy of the passport? The police certificate & a copy of it? What about the I-134 & the supporting docs, like my tax return? It seems like a LOT of paper if everything that we are bringing needs copied, especially since some of it is "just in case" proof of on-going relationship and original submission type of stuff. Thanks for the tips!

Found on the US Embassy website for Brazil. In Brazil, police certificates are issued only for applicants over the age of 18 (eighteen). Each applicant, 18 years old or more should present two Police Certificates: one from the State Police (Secretaria de Segurança Pública)- and another one from the Federal Police (Polícia Federal).

Secretaria de Segurança Pública

It is required that the applicant obtain a certificate from the “Polícia Técnico Científica”, “Instituto de Identificação” from each state in Brazil where the applicant has resided for 6 (six) months or longer for the last 5 (five) years. If you have resided in more than one state in Brazil, during this period, you will need one for each state. In Rio de Janeiro de Janeiro, please request the “Certidão de Vida Privada”.

Polícia Federal

It is required that the applicant obtain a certificate from the Federal Police. This certificate is valid for all Brazilian territory. You should access www.dpf.gov.br to request this document.   You should only refer to Departamento de Polícia Federal, Delopis – Delegacia de Ordem Social e Política” in case you are not able to get the certificate on-line.

Notes: Federal and state police certificates issued online are accepted.
The certificates issued by “Cartório” or “Fórum” are NOT, repeat, NOT acceptable, in any circumstances.

Have you tried asking over in the Sub-forum for Brazil which is located here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/96-mexico-latin-south-america/

I think they were referring to copies of the original documents like birth certificate, annulments, court papers or divorce papers. Please check with the instructions found on the website for the Embassy.

Not to worry. Just approach your CO at the interview and explain the error. They can fix it while you are in front of the. They do it all the time.

Thanks @Greenbaum! When I read the embassy website it makes the general statement about copies before it lists all of the documents. It's a little confusing because that list also includes the medical & financial and I know we aren't going to be copying the medical! :) I was hoping someone with experience from this location might be able to state exactly what they needed as copies. Thank you!

A little help is needed for M&S.

Don’t need copy of passport, they will take both police certificates, dr report, 134, most recent tax return, bank statement, etc etc.  they say have original and copy of divorce decree but they didn’t ask to see either.  We had our interview October 23, any questions shoot me a message

Is there any issue with wearing cargo shorts to the US consulate in Rio to go to the interview?  I hate pants and would hate to bring them.  What do you all think?

I emailed the USA consulate in my country, they told me to correct it on the interview

Thought I was late to the party but I just wanted to share that my visa got approved last week on the 6th. I chose to pick it up at the BH casv so I'll probably get it by this week.

Good luck to all that have interviews tomorrow!
