Hello,

1. My Fiance was in the US on a J1 visa years ago, I believe 5 or more years ago. Should we provide documentation that shows that she was in the US before and left?

2. On the Intent to Marry letter from my fiance, does it needs to be an original, or can it be a copy (as in a copy of her signature).

3. If we met while she was in the US on the J1 visa, should we provide an explanation and supporting documents/photos of us knowing each other? Would you think that it will count towards a proof on "Ongoing relationship"?

4. On the Meeting Explanation, should we have our both signatures or mine is enough? and if we have other supporting documents, would she need to sign them as well, or my name and signature will be enough?

Thank you all for the help with that.

Tyron

1) yes....you need to mention it on your application in the proper section

2) no. a photocopy of the signature is fine

3) yes. that counts as having met unless it was more than 2 years before filing for i-129F. ongoing relationship is evidence with chat, videologs and other social media, email and more. ongoing is clear with snail mail, email etc with proper dates on it. key is having communicated periodically after meeting

4) intent to marry needs to be from each one. separate. clearly 2 different intent to marry that are signed. no originals needed

Thank you for the response.

just to clarify, when she was in the US, we were dating, but then after she left we ended the relationship. Few years after, we reconnected again, and I flew to her home country several times where eventually I proposed. So now we are in the process for her to get the K1 visa. So basically, should we include these documents and a short explanation that we met in the past? Or only the most recent meeting?

hi again,

anyone have a suggestion about the above question? I am not sure if we should include that or not.

So thank you again for the support.

They don't really need anybody's life story, so yes, try to be short.

"... when she was in the US, we were dating, but then after she left we ended the relationship. About documents - send everything you have that can proof you are in ongoing relationship. So if you have something from that "past", I would suggest to attach it as well.

Good luck!!!

@trewq1x yes...i agree with Ksenia_O. you don't need to give a life story. Short explanation how you met and that you have seen your fiance in the last 2 years face to face. Proof of meeting is passport stamps, airline tickets or else and of course a picture, where you both are together. What you want to show later in the interview stage is that your relationship is ongoing from the point after filing I-129F.
