Hello,

I have been trying to figure out the answer to my question, but unfortunately haven't had any success via google. :/

I am about to file my CR1 package and am wondering about processing centers. I know that I initially send my petition to the lockbox, but am not sure how the processing center is chosen after that. I have seen that there are different processing centers with varying amounts of time. I would be filing from Portland, OR, I am wondering if I can choose a processing center, or will it just be the closest processing center to my location. I.E. California looks like it takes the longest so I'd like to avoid that processing center.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thank you

The processing center is not something you can choose. The Lockbox will send it to whichever they deem best to "balance" the load. Their balancing method isn't perfect, that's for sure, but nevertheless there's no way to know where your case will go. It is not geographically determined anymore.

Service Centers are chosen according to USCIS policy (probably work load distribution).  You have no control over which service center receives your case.  In addition, USCIS reserves the right to transfer your case from the initial center if needed.......Just relax and "enjoy" the ride...

Since this is IR1/CR1 i can tell you one thing it won't go to CSC and be glad it won't. That center has awful processing times (but they mostly handle F category visas which have quota and a log wait as it is)

likely to the next one that has least load, unless it happens to be near your place of residence, then it will likely go to next one to avoid conflict

Well after my persistent request they have now realized their mistake and now have sent it to NBC. Glad I joined these forums and did more of an investigation because it would have been still sitting there. Even with me paying a lawyer, which pisses me off they didn’t catch this. Does anyone knows what happens now?

They have 30 days to respond/finish off an inquiry.

Wait till 24 days and ask again for status update and confirmation if it was moved to appropriate center, infact even ask if the case ID is the same or not.

And depending on how old your case is, you could be likely eligible for expedited processing due to USCIS error. And maybe squeeze out some partial refund from lawyer for its incompetence, if he doesn't than say you will report him/her to the bar association.

How is your case doign?

Well after California realized that they made a mistake. They sent it off to NBC office and still didn’t want to admit they messed up. Receive a letter stating they require an interview with us. But had to reschedule due to my lawyer being unavailable for the day they gave us. Now waiting on when we will get another date for the interview

Did you get "a lawyer" or retained services of a law firm ?

With all the stupid delays and issues, you would think any firm in their client's best interest would send another lawyer in place.... But I'm glad things are moving along for you!
