I wanted to edit and put his in my other post but I didn't know how to do it. However, my question is how much does involvement of the parents affect the process? My parents accept our relationship although they were skeptical. My fiancee is 23 and I'm 31. I am in one of those situation where my fiance's parents do not like Americans and do not trust her having a relationship with an American. Could they possible stop us from being together by damaging our process? Please anyone who can help.

I have not seen anywhere around this forum such a situation where parents actually can have some sort of negative influence, however you may rethink your relationship with her parents.

Anyways, she been an adult and been able to respond for her own is enough. The only thing is that some of the paper work will require their names but it has no contact or check point with them whatsoever.

From a personal opinion though, again, maybe you want to try to get closer to them, she will move to US and it isnt a easy thing, no friends, no family she will probably revert back to talk to family few times and you dont want to be the one against them if you know what I mean.

No parent, whether the petitioner's or the beneficiary's, has anything to do with your K1. This is about you and your fiance's relationship. Not your relationship with your parents. People submit evidence that they have met their significant other's parents as showing evidence that the relationship has progressed enough to that level. But that will not be a significant enough factor in the decision process. they will not deny a K1 because you do not get along with your fiance's parents.

It can depend a bit on culture.  Like in some Middle Eastern countries or African, family involvement and approval is exceptionally desired. It's part of the norm so to say. As for us and the Philippines, honestly he never even told any family for one that he was gay nor that he was dating let alone going to go get married. So for Philippines it certainly doesn't matter at all....Brazil I would learn towards it not really making a difference either. Going to say relax and don't over think/stress on such things.

No one cares. USCIS doesn’t care and Brazil embassy won’t care a bit. They don’t even mention parents but two lines on the forms you fill out. It’s not a cultural thing in Brazil for families acceptance to have any influence whatsoever. File and move on as you may. That is a really ignorant thing btw not to trust Americans and won’t trust her having a relationship with one. They need to grow up and get out of their own bubble.
