Disney Fires ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Director Over Old Tweets

Disney has cut ties with James Gunn, the director of its enormously successful “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise, over old shock-humor tweets resurfaced by a pair of far-right media figures on Thursday.

The now-deleted tweets, sent by Gunn between 2008 and 2011, first began trending after Pizzagate conspiracy theorists Mike Cernovich and Jack Posobiec drew attention to them, likely in retribution for Gunn’s outspoken criticism of President Donald Trump.

The tweets made frequent mention of topics like pedophilia and rape. Numerous other highly sensitive subjects, including the Sept. 11 terror attacks, AIDS and the holocaust were also mentioned.

“I remember my first NAMBLA meeting,” reads one tweet, referring to the “North American Man/Boy Love Association,” a pedophile advocacy group. “It was the first time I felt ok being who I am.”

Another, sent in February 2009, reads, “The best thing about being raped is when you’re done being raped and it’s like ‘whew this feels great, not being raped!’”

rosanne was dropped because of comments she made in present time, not in the past. further, her comments weren't jokes. that being said, i don't agree with what happened with rosanne either.

I take both subjects he was making 'jokes' about very seriously, so it's Disney's prerogative to fire him if they choose to do so. He was a controversial choice to be hired in the first place. However it's pretty interesting to see who is digging into his twitter history to begin with... they've got nothing to be proud about in their own history.

agreed. 

i also think it's interesting, the political leaning of the person 'joking' about sexual assault makes all the difference in if something is considered a ill conceived joke, locker room talk, or jokes indicative of actual behavior..

i don't know that it's about sensitivity. i think we don't have enough moral accountability for those in the public eye across the board and society tries to compensate for that lack by overreacting with outrage in situations that don't necessarily warrant it. i don't think comedians should be judged personally by their jokes, which if what this director is saying is true, that's all this was.

"Joking" about being a pedophile is way over the top and Disney shouldn't have hired him in the first place (and I'm sure if they had known they wouldn't have) considering their biggest demographic is children.

i've never seen any of the guardian of the galaxy movies, any pedophilia jokes in those movies?
