Yes, 7 to 9 months for the I-130 to process seems to be the average at the moment. That's just for the approval of the I-130 petition, assuming no RFE's in the process. After you get NOA2, the petition is forwarded to NVC. This can take anywhere from 4 weeks (low end) to 12 weeks (high end) for the NVC to receive and create your case. Then you submit more documents and fees. The timeline there varies a lot, it all depends on how the NVC processes your case (electronically or snail mail). Then an interview is scheduled.

With all of these things, you're looking at roughly 12-14 months before a visa is in hand.

Congratulations on your filing! Buckle up, this is a rough ride, but at least you're standing in line now.

Yeah it's quite rough.  How long will it take for nvc case?

I was fortunate to do electronic filing with CEAC, so I didn't have to snail mail our documents in. I just uploaded them.

So for us:

  • From NOA2 to NVC case creation was just under 7 weeks.
  • It took us about 1 week to pay the fees and for those to clear, then to upload all required documents and complete DS-260 application.
  • 2 weeks later we received notice of being "documentarily qualified" (ie. they were satisfied and accepted what we uploaded).
  • 2 weeks later we received notice of our embassy interview which will be on August 22nd.

So about 12 weeks from NOA2 to notice of the interview date.

Again, this was with CEAC electronic processing. I do not know how your case will be. If you have to snail mail everything to NVC then the processing times will increase by several weeks most likely. When you get notice of your case creation by NVC they will tell you how you will be required to submit your documents.
