So, I found Commisionaires website that does police checks. I wonder if folks know about them? Here is a screenshot from their website:

It says that you will receive your results by email. That wouldn't be acceptable by DOS would it? I wonder if there is some canuck who has successfully used Commisionaires and how did it work for them?

Results by email will not work.

Inviting @NikLR and @nightingalejules to share their opinion on Commisionaires vs RCMP for getting the background check. Which one is faster? Is Commisionaires' background check accepted by DOS?

I used the Commissionaires check when I had my interview last October. I got it by email and then I emailed back and said I needed a hard copy. They said no problem and I had the hard copy in hand a few days later. :)

Yes, I wound up doing both but the one from the Commissionaires was the one USCIS wanted.

I moved to Canada as a PR in 2002. Prior to that, I lived in Pakistan for 30 years. I was told that I dont need a police clearance certificate from Pakistan for the purposes of US immigration, as when I came to Canada, my Canadian PR (I am a Canadian citizen now) required a police clearance from Pakistan. And I have NEVER gone back to Pakistan since coming to Canada.

Do I still need it then? And if so, how do I get it, since I neither have a Pakistani National ID card (mine expired decades ago) or a valid Pakistani passport.

Thanks.

Look at the reciprocity schedule on the Dept of State website, that's where you'll find the requirements per country, and if it's required for non residents.

I am the Canadian beneficiary and I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba.  I requested for a criminal record check at the Winnipeg Police Dept.  I told them it was for a US Visa.  I requested for a criminal record check minus the vulnerable sector search.

Is this the correct Police certificate to request for?  I am hoping so!  I am trying to gather all documents for P3 proactively.

I got mine from a BC police service called the Commissionaires which uses the CPIC database. I don't have a criminal record so didn't need the fingerprint version - see the paragraph above.

So helpful.

I went to the local police station(YRP) and requested one. It was $65 dollars but I was given it within minutes. The longest part of it was filing out the forum yourself. police.png.80425da75b0cbce77bb5255f678b459d.png

It looks like this! Definitely looks official. Printed on yellow paper and has an embossed seal thing. Not sure why the certificate is issued by a police station on the opposite side of the country but that's just who does this Commissionaires' checks I guess.

This is how mine looks like. I dont know if this is acceptable.
