Hi--Since my husband is supposed to keep/bring the originals to the interview, does the I-130a have to have his original signature for the packet I send? Or can he sign it, keep the original, and send me a copy?

Is an I-130a on the required list of documents to bring to the interview?  I believe original civil documents are required.

You send it in with the I-130.

Unless requested, you do not have to bring the I-130 or I-130a to the interview. My husband didn't.

Thanks for the info, but my question was: Can my hubby sign the I-130a in Dubai and send me a COPY rather than the one with the original signature?

For USCIS I would send it with the original signature. But, I believe it still says in the instructions that if the beneficiary is outside of the U.S. then you don't need their signature on the form. So I would suggest to either leave it blank, or send the original signature, not a photocopy.

I-130 or I-130a is not required to bring to the interview.

You have been a little unclear. Have you filed with the USCIS yet? If not the answer is No. It does NOT have to have an original signature to file with the USCIS. He wouldn't need it at the interview though. See attached document.

 

"A signature is valid even if the original signature is later photocopied, scanned, faxed, or similarly reproduced. Regardless of how it is transmitted to USCIS, the copy must be of an original document containing a handwritten, ink signature, unless regulations or the form instructions state otherwise.3 USCIS will not accept signatures created by a typewriter, word processor, stamp, auto-pen, or similar device."

 

"The regulations do not require that a requester submit an “original” or “wet ink” signature on a petition, application, or other request to USCIS."

Correct.  No need for a signature on the I-130a UNLESS, the beneficiary is already in the USA.  Send the unsigned original.
