Old K-1 application affecting new one?

Hi all,

 

I am sure this topic has been covered many times before but I wanted to see if anyone had any recent experience with this.

 

I was engaged to an American before. Applied for a K-1 in 2015 but he disappeared shortly after submitting the application. I got a letter from the embassy in August 2015 but never responded to it.

 

Fastforward to 2018, I have met the love of my life (another American - I wasn't planning on that at all given my past experience) and we are getting ready for the big step. We filed for a K-1 and got our NOA1 but now I am getting worried that the old one may affect my new application. 

 

I am no longer on talking terms with my ex nor with anyone in his environment. 

 

I read somewhere that K-1 applications automatically expire after 2 years of inactivity. Is this true? Thanks a lot!

It may show that the old application had no action done to it and expired...? Other members experienced in K1 can correct me if I am wrong about this.

 

Just be prepared to explain what happened with your first petition and you should be fine....be open and honest about all of it.
