Some tips regarding the medical appointment.

I had my medical appointment today and as I write this I am actually awaiting my results. I wanted to pass on some tips from my experience.

BEFORE YOU MAKE YOUR APPOINTMENT

- Find out if you have ever had Chicken Pox and if so when?

- What vaccinations have you had?

-

NOTE: THE VANCOUVER DOCTOR ONLY SCHEDULES APPOINTMENTS REGARDING VISA MEDICALS ON WEDNESDAY MORNINGS AT 6:30AM (BE 30 MIN EARLY TO GET SCHEDULED 1ST)

BRING TO THE APPOINTMENT

- 1st packet letter (The one with the case number on it)

- Passport

- Copy of passport (plain copy)

- 3 photos

- Vaccination record card/book if you have one

- $275 (Dr's appointment)

- $5 for a cup of coffee

- $55 for Measels shots (If needed)

- Family Dr. letters (If required)

- CARE CARD

AT THE APPOINTMENT

- CHECK IN (Hopefully you have Laura, she was very pleasant)

- Fill out the forms they give you (Regarding the questions on the medical history form make sure to note that the YES and NO columns are opposite from every other form I have ever filled out in my life, I had to start over!!)

- Fill the form aout as quickly as you can because the sooner you do so the better number you get.

- Hand in your passport, Immunization card, 3 photos and Dr.s letter.

- The nurse will give you infor for the shots iff you need them

- Go back to the waiting area and wait until 6:45AM which is when the doors open to the adjoined building where the Bio Medical Lab is located

- 6:45 Go to lab and wait

BLOOD WORK

- When the lab opens they will call numbers 1-4

- Take off your jacket and have a seat

- Give them the copy of your passport

- They then take 2 small viles of blood

- They confirm your name and birthday then you can leave

- Go back by the Dr. Office and sit and wait until the X-Ray clinic opens

X-RAY

- The clinic opens and they call 1-6

- They lead you too little change rooms where you have to put on a gown. (You only need to remove your shirt, so dont layer up)

- Get changed and line up (NOTE: If your the 1st one changed your then 1st in line)

- The technician leadds you in to a room and you face a board with your chest pressed up against it, hold your breath a couple times then your done.

- Get changed and go see Laura

DR.S OFFICE AGAIN

- Laura will tell you to come back at a certain time when the DR arrives to see you

I went and had a coffee and a horrible yam sandwich at the Blenz Coffee shop. I dont recommend the yam at all.

BACK IN THE OFFICE

- Have a seat and wait for your name to be called

- Name Called

- They lead you into a room, ask a couple of questions and ask you to strip to your boxers then the Dr will see you (NOTE: Make sure to wear some clean underwear!!)

- Dr. does a routine check then get changed

- One of the nurses will weigh you, measure you and check your eyes.

- Go pay for the testing which is $275

- They will give you a time to return for the results

IN BETWEEN THE APPOINTMENT AND THE RESULTS

- Go get your Immunization shots

- Its a short walk (Turn right from the Burrard entrance and head towards Gastown. Turn Left on West Georgia and the entrance to the office building is the one you need

GETTING YOUR SHOTS

- Check in, give them the form from the Dr.

- You will get another form to fill out (NOTE: This is where you need your carecard number and Family Dr's name and number)

- Give back the form and read the small info pack they give you

- A nurse will take you into a room wher you drop your stuff and have a seat

- At this time give her your immunization card or booklet if you have one

- Get the shot (It doesnt hurt I swear)

- The nurse fills out your card or gives you one if you need it. She will also fill one out for you to give to Laura when you go back to pick up your results

- Sit in the lobby for a few minuites to make sure your okay. At this time you will also pay the bill for the shot. Mine was $55.

- After go and find something to do until you pick up your results

PICKING UP THE RESULTS

- Give Laura their copy of the Immunization card

- Get your results (Dont open the package at all!!)

Thats it, nice and simple. I hope this helps atleast 1 person be prepared for the Dr.s appointment. Other peoples experiences has helped me through the entire visa process and I just wanted to give back a bit.
