Amsterdam Consulate- H1B Stamping-221g

I recently had my H1B visa interview in Amsterdam Consulate. The interview went well but the Consular Officer asked additional documents and gave a yellow form under 221g administrative processing. I submitted the documents immediately on the same day of the interview but the case status on ceac website has not changed since then.

How long will it take to get the admin processing to complete. Any help in this regard is highly appreciated and if anyone else had faced the similar situation in the past

Thanks in advance

How long ago was all this? You don’t mention the time frame involved.

Admin processing is usually a few days if you have all your ducks in a row.  Do you have a Dutch or Indian passport?

Applying in a third country could only add to the processing time

Up to 6 months - it's highly variable. Usually within 2 months. The paperwork either has to go through various agencies (that takes the longest time) or your employment will be scrutinized (that's usually faster) or your additional evidence will be included in the case and you'll get an approval right after. It can be as fast as a couple of weeks.

Are you working for IT consultancy? Nowadays 221g's are very common for Indian citizens working for those.

Yes I'm in IT industry and has an approved I-797 with my employer, I applied from Netherlands Consulate because my family has moved to Netherlands from India  in 2016. After my interview, the VO asked for my CV and gave a yellow slip. I submitted the CV on the same day. Its been torturing 2 weeks since then and still there is no update. I'm not sure what's going on. My wife is back in US and its a horrible time for us.

They are probably scrutinizing the employer and their relationship with you. Happens a lot nowadays. You'll hear from them probably within 1-2 weeks. For IT workers from India the process is getting pretty tough and you should have mentally prepared for this, very common situation. (I don't think that the fact you're doing it in Netherlands makes any difference. It's your field and citizenship.)

Thanks for the reply.

Also is there any method to reach the consulate. They have no contact phone No. mentioned on their website, just a contact form which I already filled out but, have received no response thus far.

Will it help to send the consulate more documents or have the employer directly contact the DoS or the consulate?

Thanks

It takes as long as it takes unfortunately... if they need more docs, they’ll ask. Most consulates don’t provide numbers for visa enquirers precisely because they want to be in control of when and how to respond.

Unfortunately you are applying for a non-immigrant visa, it’s a privilege not an entitlement so there aren’t really any avenues to hurry it up for you.

  • 2 weeks later...

I had my interview on July16th, 2018 at Amsterdam consulate. Following the interview the VO issued a 221g letter and asked me to submit the CV. I submitted the CV on the same day. The status on CEAC website was showing Administrative processing.

On August 10th, I got an email from the consulate that they are ready to issue the visa and asked me to submit the passport.

On the day I submitted the passport the case update date changed to 13th August but the status still remained "Administrative Processing". Again on 15th August the case updated date changed but the status still remain same as "Administrative processing".

I'm not sure how much time it takes after submission of passport to the time the passport is ready for pick-up.

Can you share your experience so that I know if this is normal process or not?
