Traveling outside States while in the process.

Hi everyone, I was wondering whether or not I am able to travel outside the States while my application is still pending.

More precisely, I applied at the end of April 2018, did biometrics mid of May and now waiting for the next step.

I was thinking about a 3 weeks trip to Italy in September and my concern would be if they schedule the interview during that timeframe.

Other than the above mentioned possibility, do you think I would face any other risks?

Thanks a lot in advance for your contribution!

From an approval standpoint there is no issue as you will just update your travel info at the interview.  From a logistical perspective, you will be given 4-5 weeks notice of your interview so if it does overlap you will be able to either request a later date or otherwise change your travel plans to make the interview.  A word of warning though, requesting a postponement can result in a significant delay (~6 months) at some field offices as they deem postponements a low priority so if getting your citizenship as fast as possible is a priority then you should do everything you can to make the assigned interview date.

You can check the processing time for N-400 by select your state here:

https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/

Most of cases have a waiting time is very long, around 12-15 months, so you may not have an interview this year.

September trip is safe for you.

Thank you guys for your replies.

I think you are right as I have just checked the time for processing this kind of application in the city I live (Salt Lake City) and was surprised by a timeframe of 13.5 to 18 months.

Honestly, I was not expecting such a waiting time, especially after reading experience from people closing their case within 6 months from the application.
