Assiging an agent

We recieved our NVC case number and invoice ID, and submitted the DS160 form today, now we are following instructions on the NVC page, with the first being to assign an agent to our case, but once we put in the NVC number and invoice ID, we get this message:

 

"K visas are nonimmigrant visas that assist spouses or future spouses of American citizens in entering the United States. As with all nonimmigrant visa applicants, a DS-160 must be filled out in order for a consular section to process the case."

 

I am presuming this is because we just submitted the DS160 and it's not in their system yet? Just wanna be extra sure since it's all getting so fast now, after months of waiting.

There is no agent for a K-1 visa. The only thing NVC does is assign the case number then forward the case to the embassy.

Ah, okay.  I just saw your timeline, too. It sounds like they haven't sent your case to the embassy yet. It takes a few days. There's nothing actionable for you to do at NVC right now.

 

Time to start gathering documents for the interview, though. I'm not sure what is in packet 3/4 for Serbia to schedule the interview, though...hopefully another member can chime in there. But it will mean getting a medical, police certificate(s), etc.

@geowrian well you just cleard up a whole lot of questions for me hah, I was confused why they kept reffering to filing a ds260 instead of 160, and why are we assigning agent when I;ve never seen anyone talk about it in k1 guides, I am getting my police certificate tomorrow and got my immunisation records already (as well as the ds160 filed)

 

for the medical, can I try scheduling it now since I have the NVC case number, even though my case is not at the embassy yet?

Yup...it's a common confusion. The K-1 is a non-immigrant visa so it uses the DS-160 only and doesn't do much of anything at NVC. However, it's handled by the immigrant visa unit at the embassy and is otherwise treated similarly to an immigrant visa. Often the instructions for immigrant visas are sent...K-1 is an oddball here. haha

 

I have to defer on that question since it's country-specific. Some can let you do the medical with just the NVC case number, others need the DS-160 too (which I know you have already), and others need a packet 3 or packet 4 letter first.
