Hi all,

So my fiancee and I are debating on whether or not she should come to Brazil to attend the K-1 visa interview with me.

Can anyone give us some insight on the benefits and drawbacks of her attending the interview with me? I would like to believe that they'll see that it's an ongoing relationship and not give us too much of a hard time lol.

I'd be nice to hear experiences from people who had their fiance(e) with them and from those who didn't.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I see no downside if the petitioner can afford it.  Even though the US citizen might not be able to sit in during the interview, showing the officer the US citizen's passport could be good supporting evidence.

I don't think there is much benefit to it honestly. A lot of countries do not allow them in anyway. I would say there would be more benefit to it in a high fraud country. No downside to it either though, so if you can easily afford it go ahead. I would say the money and vacation time would probably be better spent in the US when you arrive if that is an issue.

It is country specific I think more than anything. Some embassies, as noted don't allow petitioners in... some do.

High fraud countries I would recommend it if possible that the petitioner attends to show strength in the case.

Brazil isn't one of those countries so, if she can go great.. If not, wouldn't stress too much over it.

Thank you all for the feedback,

She hasn't seen me nor her family that lives here since last year so we're gonna try to kill a few birds with one stone lol.

Does anyone know if the Brazilian Consulate in Rio allows petitioners to accompany the beneficiary during the interview? Or should I e-mail them directly and ask?

I did a quick search here and was not able to find anything yet. But i'm pretty sure that I've seem someone on here saying that they accompanied their fiance at the interview in Brazil. Ill do some more research in the meantime.

Lot of people have already answered but since I am also from Brazil will shoot my opinion.

I was debating about the same thing last year with my wife and we decided because of the costs that I would go to the interview by myself. I did not have any issues answering the questions from the US agent neither concerns on the truthfulness of my relationship. We had never got married, fairly "young :) ", both of us with jobs and good income etc etc....

So my interview went smooth and two weeks later got my passport stamped at one of the US Offices in Sao Paulo. So definitely there is no issue if you decide to go alone. To your last point though, she can certainly comes and join you to the interview without any problems....

BTW in my timeline you can find my review for that particular part of the process. And one thing I would make sure to ask if the agent doesnt make it clear, your final decision, I mean, there are cases where after the interview they dont clearly mention whether or not you were approved. So, if you dont specifically hear from him, "your visa was approved" make sure to ask before you leave the cabin.

I accompanied my spouse (then fiance) to the K-1 interview in Rio. For us, I feel like my being there eased some of the tension for him at the consulate (especially when we presented an incorrect form of one of the required documents), and I feel like my presence helped demonstrate our commitment to the relationship given that I traveled 6,000 miles to be there.

It is allowed, and it can't hurt.  :)

Thank you all for the help and for the insight. Our petition was approved on September 5th and we expect to be going in for the interview around the begining of November. She will be joining me to help ease the tension bc I get nervous and anxious when getting interviewed by anyone. And I believe it definitely help our case. An FYI, I emailed the consulte shortly after asking this question and they replied saying " The petitioner’s presence at the interview is always encouraged".

Thank you all again and wish us luck! 😀🙏
