Hello all,

So my question is that I will be traveling from Hong Kong to Las Vegas using the K-1 visa on July 23rd.

My fiance and I would probably get married within the next few days after my arrival.

However, we would need to fly to Seattle on the 29th, which means we wouldn't have enough time to file for I-485 hence receive the NOA1 as a proof of my current immigration status.

I know that its okay to travel around as long as stay within the US, but is there anything I should worry about? Is my foreign passport enough even though the US visa will expire after my entry from Las Vegas? Or anything that I should bring with me so that I can proof that I am legally in the US so I wouldn't encounter any problems?

I was thinking I would bring a certified copy of the marriage certificate (if i already have one).....

Any thoughts?

thanks in advance :)

- Michelle

I am a holder of the Washington State Drivers license.

Since Washington State still has an extension from the REAL ID Act....does that mean I can technically fly to Seattle with just my driver's license...?

you can travel within the continental US freely.

technically you could fly on your Drivers license, but if I were you I would use my passport. shoot, ima USC and fly/travel using my passport, even domestically.  your passport will have the visa stamp, carry your marriage certificate just to be on the safe side, but you probably wont need it at all. You just want to be able to prove your status incase for some reason you have to.

@debbiedoo thanks for the quick reply :) I would definitely bring my passport along with me.

Just exploring some possibilities since I've never used my drivers license to travel domestically at all.

Don't worry....enjoy your trip.....you can travel inside the US....you will still be within your 90 day I-94 authorization, correct?

Question: how do you qualify for a WA state drivers license...just curious..

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Foreign passport works perfectly for domestic travel. Yes your K-1 would be expired as it is a single use visa but your lawfully given time on your I-94 is not expired (and they will have that in the system anyway) so you don't need anything else.
