I've just about finished putting together the I-130 for my stepdaughter. Her mom (my wife) is currently here in the US waiting for a green card interview. We'd like my stepdaughter to join us Summer 2019.

Basically, I have the following documents in a package according to the guide:

1. Completed I-130 form

2. Stepdaughter's translated birth certificate

3. Marriage certificate between my wife (stepdaughter's mom) and myself

4. Permission letter from wife's ex-husband (stepdaughter's dad) that she can come to the US

5. Copy of my passport biographical page

Is it really that simple? Basically the birth certificate says my wife is her mom, and our marriage certificate says I am married to her mom - seems too easy.

When we filed my wife's I130/I485 we submitted a ton of evidence of a bona fide marriage. Anything else I need to submit for this? Thanks

hi

the permission isn't needed until the interview, also, did your wife divorce her ex husband? if so, copy of divorce decree

any document not in English needs a translation into English of said document

the rest is fine,

Hello, last year we submitted identical information as you listed here for my stepdaughter and everything was approved for us. How is your application going? I hope your application was approved :) best of luck!

We submitted everything in July, so we're in a for a wait! Hoping she can come before Labor Day 2019 so she can start the new school year in the US. We did pay a lawyer $150 for a one hour session just to double check everything was okay since there isn't that much info about step children out there.

The entire process for us took exactly 12 months (from sending the initial application to port of entry). Below is my reply to another post:

Hello, I am a USC by birth and my Canadian husband has a 10-year green card. Last year I petitioned for my Canadian stepdaughter  (she is 14 years old) and I submitted an I-130 and everything was approved for us.

This is what we sent:

1. Completed I-130 form + fee

2. Copy of my stepdaughter's Canadian passport and birth certificate (showing my husband's name as her father)

3. Copy of my US passport and birth certificate (proving I am a US citizen)

4. Copy of my husband's Canadian passport and US green card

5. Marriage certificate between my husband (my stepdaughter's dad) and myself

6. A notarized consent letter from my husband's ex-girlfriend (they were never married) giving permission to my stepdaughter to permanently move to the USA with us
