Ok, after all the waiting and wondering, my time has finally come. I am moving over this Monday.

Here is my situation and what I have done to prepare thus far.

My fiance is flying in this Sunday and is driving over to Windsor to my parents house (and to where my 45 boxes of stuff is). He will have a rental car. My dad, FI, and I will be loading my boxes of goods into my dad's mini van AND FI's rental car. We will be crossing together (one vehicle after another) into the USA (me first .. entering in on my K1). Obviously I will indicate that the car behind me is "with me" as well and we should both be pulled over.

Ok, so this is what I have. I have labeled every box with either: Household goods, Books, Clothes, Other personal effects, and Kitchenware. I also created an excel spreadsheet with a general descriptions of what is in each box as well as an approx value. It also states total value and total number of boxes. I also have a filled out Form 6059B to hand to the customs person. Since I will be accompanying my goods, the form 3299 does NOT apply to me.

Of course I will also have my new fancy colourful K1 visa as well as the brown sealed envelope from MTL.

Anything else .. any other advice? Our case is pretty transparent. I'm not moving over any gifts, oranges, infested firewood, or parrots. lol.

Once we're over, we're heading on over to the Romulus Upack stations and loading up my boxes into my rented space. Off it goes .. and off we go to get ready for our wedding! whoo hoo!

thanks guys!

I would say all looks in order, but I didn't move with two vehicles. We didn't use the customs form and the person at the border seemed to only look at the list because we had it. I opened up the back of the truck and he barely glanced in. Best of luck with the move!

Only thing I thought of is some US $$ for the fees.. they didn't even know how much to charge us.. think it was 7$ or something. They didn't ask to see our car at all.. i can't comment on the 2 car thing either.. since we came together in one car.

Do you have your excel sheet split up whats in the 2 vehicles? That's the only thought I had - perhaps i am overthinking though :)

I think as long as you are travelling together there should not be a problem. They have to understand sometimes not everything fits into one vehicle...lol.

I'm pretty sure I will have the same thing on my moving day....but I'm crossing at a much smaller port and there would be no chance of us getting separated.

Best of luck on your move!!!!

Are you taking plants or animals? You'll need more paperwork if you are.

Don't forget to ask for the EAD stamp if you are going over the Ambassador Bridge!

Have a safe and fun trip

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
