For family-based immmgrarion, there is no fee waiver for the I-485. Any application that requires an I-864 sponsor does not qualify for it.

Secondly, it doesn’t make much sense that one can sponsor an immigrant with an I-864 but cannot afford the fee.

Just thinking the same thing

You don't see how someone can earn above than the poverty line, but still live paycheck-to-paycheck? Not farfetched when you have bills, debts, and are the only income-earner in the household.

65% of Americans have less than $1,000 in savings. I think you guys may need a bit a wakeup call.

OP, how long will it take to save up? Will the I-94 expire before then? Looks like entry was in June.

Realistically? A few months. If I had $1500 to spare I obviously wouldn't be making this post. I don't know why people are criticizing me.

We are to marry this week, but she just wants to start working and having her own money sooner rather than later. Also we need to travel back to Thailand later this year.

Well, we have bill, debt and even businesses, but we made it thru.

if I am not mistaken, another poster said entry was in June, this expense should have been already assumed by the sponsor and he/she should have prepared for it.

as far as people falling on hard times..... well. Every person creates and makes their own destiny. I would suggest a second job to pay the fees

I certainly do. But that doesn’t avoid the question on how one can meet the financial requirements for sponsorship and need a waiver. Keep in mind the financial requirements are more than just the minimum income levels to be eligible to file.

I'm not here to argue about my finances. I'm here to ask about the fee waiver. I see that it isn't possible.

Thanks for the answers.

I believe @geowrian answered that in the second post.

I'd second the credit card option. Not ideal, of course, but at least she'll have "AOS pending" status & the clock towards receiving EAD starts clicking. The longer you delay filing, the longer you delay her ability to work.

Yes this is our worry. Also we have to travel back to Thailand at the end of this year, and I believe she won't be allowed to do that until the EAD is received. We can't wait much longer to start.

How do you pay with credit? I thought they only accepted check or money order?

G-1450 form. You need to file two of these: one to go with form I-130 & one to go with form I-485.

You have to file for AP to be able to travel. EAD in itself doesn't let you travel, but if you apply for AP, you'll get a combo card that serves as EAD & AP.
