Got a job in UAE, need passport back.

Last week I have an interview for CR-1 visa at Islamabad. Overall it was good and short. CO didn’t ask me for any document except my original birth certificate and marriage certificate. At the end CO returned both certificates and my interview letter and kept my passport and said my case needs more time. I asked how much time as I may need to travel UAE for my job. CO said we can not say but if I need my passport, I can take it now or can send an email to return the passport later. The very next my case status changed to Administrative Processing although CO didn’t say that they are putting me in AP or didn’t give me any paper. The status and the date is still same and I need to travel to UAE after couple of weeks. 

 

Please share you expert opinion regarding above situation. Will my status change to Issued soon or it will take time. Should I ask for my passport back and how should I ask. Will it affect my case?

Based on what you said it sounds as if your case is in AP, which means that there is no time frame for completion

If your visa is actually going to be issued you will see the AP status you are in change within a couple days to issued, this would likely be the case if you had been told your visa is approved

AP can be short (a few days) or long (weeks, months), no way to tell. It get's done when it get's done. And like Boiler stated above, everybody goes through one, it is part of the process.

 

are you just starting a new job in the UAE? or you have been working there all this time? if you have been working there all this time, you would have been better off interviewing at the US Embassy in Abu Dhabi.

December 21, 2023:  Production of new Green Card ordered - will be seeing USCIS again every 10 years for renewal
