Do not play games, get a joint sponsor as the embassy stated.

The issue may not come up now but it might come up at the Poe and he/she is refused entry ,or at naturalization.

take care of it now

Not sure if you are telling me or the OP not to p,at games.. as I am certainly not !

OP asked what they should say IF they do receive the passport and visa.. that is what I have answered..

If  the visa has been issued, as the status update indicates, then sending the joint sponsor paperwork may not resolve the situation without identifying the issue to the consulate,

Dude, are you reading our posts?

CONTACT THE EMBASSY AND ASK THEM TO BE 100% SURE.

Don't assume anything. Ever.  Embassy don't just suddenly change their mind about important documents like co-sponsor stuff.

It’s highly unlikely if the issue was sponsorship. The embassy does not have discretion over this. There is a set amount of income that the sponsor must have, and if they can’t meet that then there must be a co-sponsor. The only way this could have been alright without a co-sponsor is if your friend submitted new documents from the original sponsor showing that they do in fact meet the income threshold. Could this have happened?

Well that’s the normal process after issue. Doesn’t change anything anyone has said here.

this post in particular bears repeating:
