Another thing that works is using a cell phone from Republic Wireless on wifi in the Philippines. You can get them from their website directly.

I've had their 5 dollar wifi service for a few years now and when I'm at our house in the Philippines I can send and receive phone calls, im's,  emails, etc from family or whoever in the US as if I am still there in the US. Works perfect, never lose a connection. Internet, skype, phone, everything with just a 100 dollar or so cell phone. 5 dollars a month. I'm thinking about leaviing mine here when we leave so my fiance's family can use it when we are in the US. It doesn't work anywhere other than in the house or within 50ft of it.

Also, we live in the middle of nowhere pretty much as well but you can still get wifi through globe. We have a dish on our roof and a router in the house, the router communicates directly with the globe cell tower just like a cell phone would and for 50Gb a month we pay about 1200 pesos. So for less than 30 dollars a month you can have wifi for the family, watch netflix from your US acct too, and a direct line to the US which nobody who called you would even know that you were outside of the US unless you wanted them to know.
