Unlimited Calls to Philippines ?

 Share

I was using Globe Duo for a few years for unlimited calling from US to Philippines but they have ended that service.

I'm having some difficulty finding an affordable and reliable alternative.

What service do you use for unlimited calls from US to Philippines?

Thanks for any info as my wife loves daily calls to her family.

We used Voip Raider for a couple years to call Portugal. It just requires you to have an internet connection (your end).

EDIT: It's free for Portugal but looks like you pay $0.110/min for Philippines. My apologies.

There are a fair amount of decent voice clients that you can both download. Some are free, some require a host server at a small monthly fee. You need a decent internet connection too.

We've used the following over the years;

  • Raidcall
  • Discord
  • Skype
  • WhatsApp
  • Yahoo messenger
  • Mumble
  • Ventrilo
  • TeamSpeak

They all allow conference or single person communication and can be used on your phone or computer - except WhatsApp.

yeah 11 cents a minute would be $300 for 3000 minutes which I think my wife used the last month..

Her family doesn't have reliable internet service in the Philippines province so any service that requires reliable internet on that end won't work.

Thanks for the suggestions so far though. still looking..

We use magicjack go. FREE calls with the purchase of $35.00 toward the equipment. One year of calling then renew for 12 months at I think $35.00. Set it up to have a local number in USA. They will need an internet connection and no PC required. We have used that for 5 years. Talk as many times you want for any length of time.

We also used this and was great when wife was in Manila but for family in Mindanao the internet connection is too weak/spotty to be useful, they live in a quite rural area

Yes, my wife's family also lives in rural Mindanao so anything that requires internet on the Philippines side won't work for us.

If they have ok globe or tiny mobile service the vonage option is viable, decent connectivity call quality but horrendous service around holidays as the cell carriers get overwhelmed

You're paying $35 for yearly phone service!!?  Yikes!!      I stopped using MJ back in 2011.  FREE Trumps annual fees.

Google voice phone service , with an OBI device, is free ...  I have one in the Philippines with a U.S. phone number assigned .. they can call anywhere in the USA or Canada for free, and anyone in the USA can call them as if local.  Did I mention FREE .. there is no fee.

The OBI device can be used with a variety of VOIP providers, and is the only one I know of that works flawlessly with Google Voice.   Not locked into one VOIP service.  ;)

But .. they do not have reliable internet so this is all for naught

Worse almost $30 and about $12 in mystery fees, not cheap but a good combination of price and reliability

I wish I had known about obi as I just bought a new MJ for my wife to take with her to the PI next month to replace the old one. Now I know. Well we have widdled our way down in pricing to help the OP, to what I think is the best option which is yours.

My wife is from Ozamiz City Mindanao where internet is OK. So we don't have a concern as the two of you have.
