Hi Everyone,

I'm so glad that I could move to the second round of the whole US immigration process. Now that I have my K3 visa, it's time to go to another journey (more waiting to come? )

Can anyone let me know if it is Ok for me to put my Married Name on my EAD application form instead of my maiden name, since my K3 visa is with the maiden name? or since my K3 was in my maiden, thus I still have to continue with the same name? If so, how can I do a name change for all my immigration process?

I would like to have my SSN and green card later with my Married Name too.

Thanks so much in advance.......gosh how I really love this forum!

angelique,

Use the name that you want on the documents in your application for the documents.

Angelique:

Some women prefer to keep all the documentation in their maiden name, so all the paper work ties (or simply because they wanted to keep their names). But if you decide to use your married name for you EAD, make sure AOS and AP are all under the same name. I believe that once you get the Green Card you can go to the SSA office and change your name on your Social Security Card also.

In my case, I used my married name on the immigration documentation and was able to get my driver’s license on my married name also, I still haven’t changed my SS card (just lack of time). The only glitch if you change your name, is when you travel because then your passport will be on your maiden name and the GC or travel permit will be on your married one. But for this, carry your marriage certificate when you travel, just in case someone gets funny with you.

Good luck with your AOS, and I hope you have a speedy one.

rob&ana,

Point of clarification: AP is not an issue for angelique, which she seems to know since she didn't mention it. Don't try to confuse her by bringing that into her situation.

My intention was not confuse her. My intention was to say that the name she uses in the EAD, AOS and AP should be one and the same. I dont see how this can be confusing for anyone.

Ana,

Angelique has no use for AP. Telling her that her AP application should use the same name as her AOS and EAD applications may cause her, or other K3s, to incorrectly think that she does. There's no reason to inject AP into a situation where it does not apply.

In some countries that might be easier said that done…

You mentioned that when we travel, there may be questions because the Ukrainian passport maiden name doesn't match the GC or travel permit married name. In this case carry the marriage certificate. My question is, has anyone done this before ? Do you need an original certified copy of the marriage certificate or will a photocopy of the certified marriage certificate be sufficient ???

I carry an original (still now that I have the Green Card), We ordered two certified copies of the marriage certificate, so I could carry one with me all the time when I travel. I would think that a copy would work also though. If you are travelling with your travelling permit (as oposed to the GC or a K-3 visa), I would also recommend bringing copies of your NOA's and Interview letter (if you have received it already).

Good luck...

My passport was changed to my married name on return to my home country UK....after my marriage in the U.S.....My k-3 visa is in my married name..i filed for EAD / AOS also in my married name. AP does not apply to me so there was no need for me to apply for it!! My K-3 is a multiple entry visa good for 2 years :D

Could anyone enlighten me? What does AP stand for? I'm in a similar situation to Angelique and need to apply for my EAD soon.

Thank you!

Eliette

AP means Advance Parole......permission to leave the U.S. temporarily and come back!! Application forms filed by K-1's that want to travel outside the U.S. while their AOS is still pending.

I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm mistaken :)
