Help me understand this USCIS email regarding my AOS interview

Hey all,

I have received this email from USCIS 3 days ago (I filed for AOS one year ago and was at "Scheduling your interview" phase for about 10-11 months):

Quote

There has been a recent processing action taken on your case.

Receipt Number: MSC1234567890

Application Type: I485, APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR ADJUST STATUS

Your Case Status: Testing and Interview

On July 10, 2018, we scheduled an interview for your Form I485, APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR ADJUST STATUS, Receipt Number MSC1234567890. We will mail you an interview notice. Please follow any instructions in the notice. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address.

If your case status indicates that you are currently in this step, you have either been scheduled for an interview or are in line to be scheduled for an interview. The amount of time your application will remain in this step will vary by office and is largely determined by the number of cases ahead of yours. The interview notice will have specifics about time, location and anything you will need to bring to your interview. If your application remains pending beyond our normal processing times (as shown below) please contact our national customer service center at 1-800-375-5283. Please note that not every application/applicant will require an interview. In some instances, an interview is required by regulation and others an interview is requested because USCIS has determined that this is the most efficient means to determine eligibility. For a naturalization application the interview will include your taking the required English and/or Civics tests (unless exempt or waived).

- What is "Testing and interview", is this simply the interview?

- This update does not show on the "dhs" website but only in the "egov" website, but usually the dhs website is much more updated so that's weird right?

- How long should I wait for the interview notice to arrive by mail before contacting USCIS and asking where is it? (I don't want to accidentally miss the interview because I failed to receive the piece of paper via mail...)

- How long before the actual interview do they usually send this notice?

Thanks!

I got the same email and have the same experience where the status is only showing up on the "egov" and not on the "dhs" one.

From what I've seen, people usually receive the notice 3-7 days after getting that notification. So I'd probably give it about a week or 2 before calling about it. Seems like interviews are usually about 5 weeks from when they schedule it but that might depend on your field office.

Yes you are correct it is for the interview. Please do not be worried at all about this letter. Usually they send a interview notice several weeks in advance before a interview.

Good to hear it's not only me going through this haha (obviously thousands of others...).

It's San Francisco office, which is very shitty because it's extremely busy here...

Yea same here. I'm paranoid/skeptical about it because I got this status a lot sooner than others and I'm used to everything in this process being extremely drawn out. Hopefully it's not a mistake and I get the notice in the mail soon.

I wanted to fly out of the country on July 31st for a week but that's not happening probably... Cuz my AP has expired end of June, and I filed to extend it with EAD on Feb 20 but still nothing... Classic USCIS.

Besides the N-400 Applicants, The I-485 Applicants are also being "Tested" for American History and Civics questions. Therefore, "Testing and Interview".

Wait... You don't mean I'll be tested right? From my understanding AOS isn't testing for anything besides the legitimacy of the marriage.

Not true at all. Neither for AOS or ROC. All you get is a regular interview, unless you're approved without one.

Can you fill in your timeline so we can see how long you’ve been waiting?  When did you first file?  How long did it take for EAD?  Thanks!

Sorry bout that.

I filed for AOS+EAD+AP on May 2017. Got EAD+AP on June 2017 (expedited EAD).

From then on I'm waiting for the AOS interview. Filed for extension for EAD+AP on Feb 2018 and nothing yet.

I got the interview notice for AOS 3 days ago via email.

Go to USPS.com and create a free account, then sign up for "informed delivery",  you will get an email every day where there is 1st class regular mail scanned and attached to the email so you know what to expect on a daily basis.  On the down side when I KNOW I am to get something, and it don't show, it's normally there the next day, and a couple times, someone else got my mail delivered to their house, and they passed it along to me (eventually).

Our timeline is similar. My husband applied for AOS and EAD June 2017. He received EAD last October. We received the same notice you did via email on June 19th. I have heard it can take up to a year at this point.  The only positive on that would be if it takes two years for AOS, he would receive 10 year green card instead of 2 year conditional.

How could it take up to a year after they say "interview was scheduled"? If it's scheduled then from what I heard/understood it's around a month after the notice
