It might or might not. Just like Russian roulette. It's not a chance worth taking IMO.

I guess if your in the field things like that you are much more aware of. Like the Chemist at my former job would never heat food in a plastic container (in the microwave)

Almost all ground beef nowadays is going to be contaminated with bacteria. It's likely to be wrapped in plastic that is relatively easy to puncture. Babies have weak immune systems. The microbiologist in me already see's a problem brewing there.

Several common bacteria can survive on a surface for weeks. Bacteria like Salmonella cannot be washed off with soap and water. Bacteria like Pseudomonas can survive and grow in a bleach solution. Some enterobacteria species cannot be killed with alcohol.

It's not a chance I would take. If you butchered an animal yourself, you could probably feed the meat to your kids raw without much risk. The average package of raw meat that we buy in stores today is just not sanitary enough to handle that way.

Yet here I am, 45 years later, eating several pound of raw beef every year.  Bodies can build up a resistance to just about anything.

Perhaps I should have been more clear. When I said baby food, I meant for the purpose of feeding to a baby.

If you are eating the baby food yourself, by all means mix it with raw ground beef if that's your thing. You are an adult. You can probably make that risk assessment for yourself. If you can tolerate it, that is great. I eat raw liver myself once in a while. There is some risk and there are some bacteria you cannot "build up a resistance to". A babies immune system is not the same as yours or mine though. At the age where a child is eating baby food, they do not have that resistance. Why would you even want to take that risk?

I think anyone should be aware that the chances of a random package of ground meat being contaminated with fecal bacteria is relatively high. If you wouldn't store baby food in your toilet, you probably wouldn't want to store it in a bag with raw ground beef. It's never been a big deal for me. I buy enough meat in one trip to put it all in one shopping bag.

As far as being environmentally friendly, I try to make sure they don't over do it by bagging things that don't need bags.

People the world over have been feeding their babies uncooked and undercooked food for centuries.  And yet, we’re all still here.  Nothing wrong with being careful, but as Unidentified said, people who try to keep things TOO clean often cause problems by doing so.

People haven't been eating meat the way we process it for centuries. Which is why I said if you butchered an animal yourself, you probably could feed it safely to kids. Not babies though. Meat isn't recommended until at least 6 months anyway, and many babies won't even try it at that age.

Very few countries process meat the way we do. When else in history did they need to treat meat with ammonia to make it "safe". Historically it was safe because an animal was slaughtered in a way so the contaminated parts didn't end up in the same place as the edible parts.

Sort of aside, but infant mortality from bacterial diseases actually was very high throughout most of our history as well. Most people don't want to go back to that.

Ah yes, conservative values. The child in the womb is a valuable human being, but families fleeing persecution, although partially America's fault, should all just go die in a corner.

One thing I can say about all the talk about Plastic. I ate at a local BBQ joint last night. Its been around many many years. The served on styrofoam plates with styrofoam cups. It did make pause, thinking of the vast amounts of trash that will take at least 500 years to decompose, just that one small restaurant puts in the landfill

Please help us understand what abortion has to do with plastic straws?  Are clinics currently sucking the fetuses out of the uterus with plastic straws?

Or is this your lame attempt at a “straw man” argument??

Not picking on you, but why is it every time I put something in a plastic bag or container and keep it outside for more than a few months the plastic goes all to heck and falls apart?

No way it's going to last more than a year when I'm using it.

Right.  So our best bet is to spread out all those straws in fields and let nature do its work.
