Hello,

I am looking for advice on having an E2 visa replaced/ re-issued.

My husband has lost his passport with the E2 visa in it. He has reported it to the police, made a new passport application with his Consulate and notified the US embassy in London (where visa was issued).

Now, he has been told he must re-apply for the visa. Does this mean an entirely new E2 visa application must be made? Must the entire family travel to London to re-apply? We are two adults and two children.

And my most urgent concern...my daughter is on holiday in the UK and travelling home alone. Will she be able to re-enter the US with the E2 visa in her passport, although my husband has reported his passport with the visa missing?

It is so difficult to get answers to these questions from anywhere and I would really appreciate any advice or hearing about any similar experiences !

Thankyou!

If you are in the US and do not plan to travel, you do not need the visa stamp on the passport. The visa stamp is just for traveling in and out of the US. What matters is that your petition is valid and you have the paperwork to prove it.

I don't see why other visas would have to be reissued. That does not make any sense to me. They are tied to the petition, not other visa stamps.

To tell you a bit about me. I lost my passport with an F1 visa. My i-20 was valid so I stayed in the US. I even used the photocopy of my visa (I always scan my whole passport so I had a copy), to apply for the H1B because I didn't leave the US after I lost the passport (I got a new one in the US, like what you are doing). For my H1B application, I didn't even tell them I had lost the passport, they didn't care about any of that (I asked the person doing the paperwork on my behalf).

Thanks for this Coco8! I guess the problem my husband faces is that he travels to Europe intermittently for work and needs the stamp in his passport.

It is really frustrating that a visa stamp cannot be re-issued! And very expensive.

It may be frustrating but if I understand it correctly, the visa is linked to the passport it is stuck into. So if you get a new passport you either need to carry the old passport with its visa in as well (not an option for you obviously), or get a new visa sticker.

I think it might also be that it is not a renewal. So if it is not a renewal the only option is to reissue the visa.

I got a F1 visa renewal on a new passport, but I had the old passport with the original visa on it.
