I do. E-mails.

Do they say you were not hired due to immigration status?  Even if they do, it simply means the person who wrote you the email misunderstood......

Exactly. There are so many ways out here. OP is early in his/her career, understandably being a little naïve. This is a non-case for them.

Alright, I guess I am done here until I hear something from them. It seems like most people assume the worst that can happen ;) I don't think anyone has talked about the possibility of getting hired and what can come after that.  Too much negativity.

I am just trying out here folks. I am not there to do harm to someone or screw someone over, but rather try to get a job I really want and support my own family. I think I would have this job if it wasn't unfair HR practice and I am simply addressing it. Nothing more, nothing less.

Agree......however, if it could be proven that a number of employees were discriminated against by this company, then a class action might be appropriate.......but that doesn't seem to be the case....

And wouldn't really help OP getting a job. But would help others in the future.

Yep.  A person can be fired for ANYTHING other than a few "protected" reasons.

The worst thing is when someone posts for help and get the hard answers that are not in line with what they "thought" they were going to get from other members. The world will not always agree with you and that is a hard truth.

Exactly, the world today is a hard reality

What's the harm in a slight nudge to them to educate them on EAD? Maybe the Hr person just is not familiar with it. That's all he wanted to do at first. This I agree with. I think everyone assuming the worst is just being negative.

On the other hand. I agree with everyone that full on assault without hard proof would not be wise. You will burn too many bridges.

As long as he is respectful with his approach, I don't see harm in it. I wish you luck OP. Keep us informed on what happens.

The hard truth is that what the employer is doing is highly illegal and also that there are other people who have successfully fought illegal practices like this.

I don't understand the pessimism. It looks like people here are OK with employers breaking the law.

OP, if every single one of us who works in finance or near the industry has explained to you the environment you are getting into. Maybe you should think twice if this truly what you want to do.

Then again I am sure Morgan Stanley is a utopia firm not just about the bottom-line and would gladly be educated on the law, I am sure they will gladly offer you to do a Q&A with the WSJ after the whole ordeal. There is absolutely no backstabbing, discriminating, grudge worthy indviduals I am sure at that firm. I am sure the HR group in NYC does not have extensive profiles on every canditate/employee with various ways to protect the firm at anytime. Also the "at-will" employment contracts with tons of verbage I am sure it just lengthy to protect their employees first.

You may want to google "female equal pay" at bugle brackets, to get an idea of how prepared these firms are for these fights.
