Passport expiring- renewal or not?

Hello everyone!

 

Me (Italian citizen) and my Fiancée filed for the K-1 Visa and received NOA1 on February 12th 2018. As I am currently gathering documents for the interview, I realized I might have a problem with the expiration date of my Italian passport which is 19th of May 2019.
VJ timeline suggests that the case will be approved around 29th of August - 2nd of September. After that, Naples consulate states: "The transfer of your case from NVC to Naples can take up to 3 weeks. Once we receive your case we will send you an email with instructions on how you can proceed with your visa application, including what documents you need to obtain before your interview. Overall, processing time from when we receive your petition to when you are scheduled for an interview generally takes from two to four months."

Just today I read on the Naples consulate page here on VJ that the passport has to be valid for 8 months in order to be able to get the Visa.

Considering this amount of time I might not have enough validity time left on my passport, maybe even for a few days.

 

I do have an appointment scheduled on the 14th of August for the renewal of the passport, but I am considering to skip it because the I-129f is filed with my current passport number. I am also obtaining a Certificate of No Criminal Records from China which will have my current passport number on -that's the passport I had when I lived in China-.

 

I just sent an email regarding this topic to the Consulate in Naples and I am waiting for an answer.

Any of you had a similar experience?

Police certifications are not connected with a passport number even if the passport number shows on it. So don’t worry about that.

 

I-129f has no connection whatsoever with beneficiary’s passport either as that number is only required if the person is in the states (although I wrote mine even though I wasn’t in states at the time) so that’s also not important. Because I-129f is a petition by the us citizen and not an application for visa by the beneficiary (foreigner).

 

but having a valid passport at the entry and during the visa process is important, and your passport by the time you finish the process may barely have 6 months on it. Go and renew your passport and apply k1 with the new passport. (They May ask to see your old passport at the embassy too)

Renew it now! Don't skip it!
And keep your old passport with you in case you need to prove anything. 

Form I-129F is filed by the Petitioner, even if you did enter your current passport number in the form it will only be used by USCIS to verify your past entries in the U.S territory. 

 

If you renew it now, you will have the passport soon enough and you will be able to use it to file DS-160 and complete the rest of your interview phase. 
It's important to file DS-160 with the number of the same passport you will give to the Consul. It's where they will print your Visa and it has to match.

Thank you guys so much for the answers. Naples consulates was very fast in replying to my email and confirmed that I can go the the interview with a new passport.
