Current job moving out of State

Hello...my fiance, in the Philippines, and I just started our process. All of our paperwork should be fine, we are not concerned with having any issues, praying it will go smoothly...

But...

I'm sure losing ones job during the K-1 process happens often, and I may be finding myself in that position.

Been with the same company for almost seven years, and now, at the worst timing, the owner wants to move the company to Arizona.

While there are both pros and cons about moving with the company, I'm really not sure, at the moment, if I should.

That said, I need some advice right now.  If I were to decide to not move with the company, would it be better to get a new job now, months before her interview or remain until the company actually leaves, and find a job then..?  Explaining to the 'powers-that-be' why i had to find new work.

This is the worst timing ever. And nothing is set in stone yet.

I know each case is different, I just want to make the best decision here.

thank you!!

Being able to provide for your new wife is the most important thing. And proving it to immigration officials is huge. They don't like instability of any kind, especially financial.

Moving with your employment is not a big deal. Being unemployed is.

How certain are you that employment can be obtained without leaving a big hole in your CV?

If I had any doubt about finding a new (good-paying) job, I'd move. You could do worse than Arizona.

Stay employed.

Good luck!

Staying employed is most important, especially if you're on the lower end of the income requirement and don't have access to a sponsor. Another route is to evaluate your assets. You can use 300% of the requirement in assets to substitute (or bridge the gap if your income falls below).

If your employment is at risk, I would recommend having a joint sponsor, just to let you have more room to breathe. The more risk mitigation, the better.

No matter what you decide, get your resume ready and start looking. In the end, you need to keep a job - any job. If you can find a job where you live, start your search in LA and the immediate area. If nothing happens, you can follow the company and see where it takes you.

I would stay with your current employer with 7 years in there. Moving to Arizona will be a lot better than California. You will be getting a 2 dollar an hour raise just by paying less in state and local taxes. LOL, maybe not that much, but I would jump at a chance to live in Arizona over California, but that's me, you have to make your own mind up.

Thank you for the response thus far.

My pay scale is not an issue, no need for a sponsor (do not believe Philippines allows sponsors). And i am already getting responses from potential new employers at a significant raise in earnings.

Sure, Arizona is a plus...I have been planning to move out of Cali, but the timing is not that great

I know the importance of having a good paying stable job, that is why my question is, since there is a few months before her interview, if I should make the change now if I don't plan to move out of State yet.

I have a daughter here, that is the number 1 reasons to stay.

I like the thought of being able to move with a company and continue to have a steady job, but then the move might not be good for the company itself, and if it goes ' south,' then I am truly screwed.

God is in control...I believe that.

Thank you.

A chance to make more money is good also. I don't know what I would do. If you take a new job for an increase in pay that's a no brainier they would more than understand if they asked why you changed jobs, for more money is a good answer, who wouldn't, now if you have like 3-4 job changes before the interview I could see an issue, but a single job change I don't see them caring about. Maybe if they didn't take so long with submission to interview everyone would be better off. You can't put your life on hold waiting for USCIS, and I would think they would understand that. Plus you obviously have a good reason to stay around, so tough choice, and good luck. Wishing you the best.

Thank you, Loren...

Yes, that is what I was thinking as well.  Higher paid position sounds better.  And I do not plan to change jobs again.  I am one of those kind of people that stays for years at a job.  I have a good track record of that, and hope to hear able to show that as well.

Thank you...I will update in the future.

Me also, been at my current job for 14 years, last one before that was a good 5 years. I just don't move around much, guess I'm not big on change, granted money is a good motovater, but still with the 5 weeks a year vacation I get, along with decent money, I'm hard pressed to move on. Found my nitch and am just rolling with it. Maybe not the best job in the world, I'm far from a millionaire, but I've worked much harder for less money.

Thought I would update what is happening.

The company is moving to Arizona at the end of October, and I have chosen to move as well.

I believe it will be better for our future, and possibly look better for her interview.

Not only a huge pay raise ($20 hourly), but with the lower economy should help us quite a lot.

We are early September filers.  Praying it goes smoothly and quickly.

Matthew
