Better, I was booking an appointment for a dementia test as we speak, will call it off.

You know there's no such thing as a dementia test right?

I was simply pointing out to you what the Scandinavian countries practice: social democracy.

NOT democratic socialism.

The two are almost mutually exclusive.

How so?  And what's democratic socialism anyway?  Has there ever been such a thing?

Anyway, I grew up in East Germany, a country that most people would call socialist, but not democratic.  I feel that the Scandinavian and Western European countries managed to pull off a better kind of socialism than the countries behind the Iron Curtain.  The things that socialism had promised to improve, such as empowerment of workers or public welfare were much better in Northern and Western than in Eastern Europe.  Some people wouldn't even consider East Germany as socialist, but rather as some kind of authoritarian state-capitalism.

I am not aware of an actual Democratic Socialism experiment yet.  If you read through the DSA website, essentially they want to democratize everything which really means the government would control the economy which really seems to be re-packaged socialism/communism where all the decisions are by committee with committees overseeing committees, etc.  I was on a plane a few days ago and saw a movie titled "The Death of Stalin" that was actually pretty funny considering the topic and the person.  The funny part was that when Stalin keeled over, it took hours/days for the committee to decide what to do.  It really did depict what goes on as far as indecision and infighting within committee governance.

Regardless, as others have already stated, there is a world of difference between Social Democracy and Democratic Socialism, but they are often times confused.
