Segregation would mean it would be an all white or all black school which it is not. As you would say: 2 scoops of ice cream.

So this would be a case where merit is removed from the equation to force diversity?

I get it now, racial profiling is ok if it meets desired outcomes .....

interesting

Its kind of like the Rooney rule in football, improve opportunities for minorities, would you want to identified as getting your shot because of your differences?

i went to school in Boston in the early 70s, quotas don’t work

So why do you guys think they want to diversify a college?

They want to diversify the schools so that then can bring in more foreign born students at higher tuitions and thus make more money. The UC system has already openly admitted to favoring foreign born students of native born due to the higher tuition. I can provide articles if you want.

Not a problem.... If you notice the links I am posting are from sites that are from the Left and the Right.

But hefty state funding cuts in recent years have forced  California’s higher-education institutions to rely more heavily on tuition revenue, prompting them to favor out-of-state students who pay higher rates to attend. “It’s absolutely a priority of the UC system to enroll in-state students as opposed to out-of-state ones,” Robinson said. “We’re in the access business, and we cannot admit everyone who’s qualified … it makes it difficult for us to fulfill our basic mission.”

Since 2010, UC has worked to recruit more nonresident students to make up for budget shortfalls, and the administration has been very transparent about the need for increased revenue; last year, these students each paid about $37,000 in tuition and fees compared to $12,240 for undergraduates who met residency requirements. This tactic proved controversial among parents, students, and politicians, who believed California students were being denied entry to their top-choice schools. Earlier this year, Gov. Jerry Brown said that UC Berkeley is no longer a place where “normal” students can get in.The auditor’s report shows that between academic years 2010-2011 and 2014-2015, out-of-state enrollment increased by 82 percent (18,000 students) while in-state enrollment decreased by 1 percent (2,200 students). It also found that between 2005-2006 and 2014-2015, UC campuses denied roughly 4,300 California students admission, students who had met or exceeded the median scores of nonresident undergraduates who did gain admission.

Does this really have anything to do with diversity thought? Doesn't just mean they're piss poor and desperate for money so they want foreign students so they get grant money? Not really diversifying.

I was told that diversifying had to do with encouraging students to think outside the box. When a school as a mix of men/women black/white people who were born here/immigrants straight/gay disabled/not disabled you get more ideas flowing in the classroom. And one of the main ideas with college is for you to learn to think for yourself and it's just creates more ways of thinking outside the box when you have people with different experiences sharing their views on thing.
