I'm trying to find out if my step-son have his first green card under a K-2 visa process in hand in other words,  he got it in the mail at the end of April. Then just last week we got something in the mail stating that he have an interview at the end of July for a green card would he have to go to this interview?

Have you tried to call Customer Service?... If no luck, or you got conflicting information... I'd go for this "interview"...Or make an Infopass before that date.  Just to make sure everything is alright.  Mistakes happen and USCIS is not an exemption.

A K1 parent and  USC should go along with a child.
