My fiancé visited me in the us while our k-1 was being processed twice, with two months in between the trips. He didn't have close ties to his country but had enough and got through with no problem. He is still here and we are traveling to his country in November for the interview. As long as you have ties and don't overstay, you won't have a problem!! And once before he was traveling and only had 1 month between visits (with the vwp) and had no problem then

Hope that helps!

That is extremely helpful and makes me feel much better! Did he mention the K1 when coming through immigration do you recall? Thank you so much!

Just tell the truth. Take proof of ties and be prepared for extra questions. Some people have also taken the first page of their I129F. If applicable when you get to the stage of any of these visits, take a copy of your NOA2 or confirmation of any appointments (medical/interview) which may have been scheduled. In my mind, once you have reached a certain stage in the proper legal process to get the appropriate visa, you are less likely to stay illegally. There are no guarantees and as you can see from the consulate response to my message, it varies from one case to the next. Best suggestions I can offer is to be honest about everything, don't volunteer information, but answer truthfully to anything you are asked and bring any evidence you can possibly get to show your intent to return when you are supposed to.

Sounds like great advice, thank you! I am just so keen for everything to go smoothly, and would be devastated to be turned away after travelling all the way to Oregon, especially as plane tickets are so expensive! I will just try to ensure I have sufficient evidence for ties within the UK and keep my fingers crossed.

I can relate. This is going to be our first visit since July. It's been terrible being apart for so long and the thought of being turned away is more than I can deal with. However, I do have plenty of ties here and our trip is short, and falls over the Holidays, so I am not overly concerned about it. And you're right about the flight prices!

Long distance is truly awful and I can totally understand how you feel! We had a stint of nearly fourth months apart previously and I loathed it. Wishing you the best of luck both for your trip and with your visa process and thank you again for the advice!

So I would like my Fiancee to come for the full extent of the B2 Visa. I would buy her round trip tickets because I know she needs to be there for the interview process. Plus they need proof she is going back. She would still be paying her rent for her flat. What are the chances she would be denied. Would it be beneficial if she went with our paper work showing that we have applied for the K1 and we know that she needs to go back for it to be completed? I just dont want her to go through all the trouble to get a B2 and have her denied on her POE. Also what is the turn around time for a B2 in London (She is romanian and lives in London so she doesnt qualify for the waiver)

Sandra, how did it go? :)

Easy peasy!

The officer asked me:

Purpose of the visit? (Visiting fiancé + parents)

Is he US citizen or Swedish? (US citizen)

How did you meet? (Instagram. When he heard this he started laughing and mocking me in a funny way. I said it could be worse haha)

Have you been here before? (Spent 2 months here in the summer, but only staying for 9 days this trip because I'm on fall break from school)

How is halloween celebrated in Sweden? (He was intrigued by the fact that we get a week off before Halloween in Sweden, started asking me questions about holiday celebrations)

Ended with a have a safe trip!

Pretty easy and funny officer, so I was probably lucky.

Oh wow that's great to hear! I am going to LA in January and soo nervous =) I picked LAX specifically because they are always nice and don't really seem to care too much. But our application has been moving ahead of schedule so I am not sure where we'll be at, but I am hoping I can schedule the interview and doctor's appt in February otherwise I can't go to LA.

Three times so far, yes. Don't sweat. They are generally very friendly in Houston. Always have to travel to Houston to change flights to my fiance's state.

Never been grilled once. Only evidence they wanted to see was a return ticket/itinerary during one 88 day stay, that's it. The last guy who stamped me in was actually laughing and joking. Asking why I wanted an American lady when so many to choose from in Europe.

Although, I'm curious if I could still visit on the VWP despite the I-I29F petition being approved? Thinking of going for my medical in London and then visiting for about two weeks.

Or too risky?

It is my understanding that you can go at any stage prior to receiving the K1 visa as long as you have proof of return, ties to home etc. It is not definite that they will let you in, but there is nothing stating you cannot go.

Thank you. I was having a look at the terminal layout and it seems that all international flights come in at Terminal E, where it appears their passport control and security area is located and then you get the train to the terminal you are flying out from, if connecting. Was that your final destination? We arrive on United and then have a United connection through to Orlando. After collecting luggage and clearing customs, do you know if the bag drop is right outside the customs area, or do we take our luggage to a bag drop at the check in desks at our next departure terminal? We have around 2 and a half hours so I'm fairly relaxed about it, having done a 75 minute such clearance at EWR before!

Although, I'm curious if I could still visit on the VWP despite the I-I29F petition being approved? Thinking of going for my medical in London and then visiting for about two weeks.

It should not be a problem. Go back to the previous page of this thread. I think it's post 997 or thereabout. I copied the Embassy's reply about traveling on an ESTA while our petition was being processed. Hopefully that will help reassure you.

I believe this to be correct, based on the information I got from the Embassy in London.
