I know, I've visited several countries and it never entered my mind that I would be questioned, and I never have been. Now, all the sudden I feel like a criminal. We're going to try border crossing tomorrow- me, my American fiancé, both my dogs, I'm self employed so no letter from employer. All I have with me is utility bills (no mortgage or lease as I own my house), I have an email from dog insurance company that we're covered on vacation, 2 months emergency medical for me, and they can call my kids who I'm going to visit on my way home, or they can call the housesitter. Hmm, also carrying flour, Coffee Crisp, Red Rose tea, Rogers porridge....

Good luck!

My fiance is coming from Canada to visit me for the first time since I've filed the K-1. He lives with his parents and the only ties he has to Canada is his university class schedule, would that be enough to convince customs to let him pass? He does have a return ticket as well.

Well my fiance's trip is over cray5ol.gif

When he was at Toronto Pearson he said that the customs officer he got was an elderly lady that seemed very grouchy. That didn't seem to matter because he told me she just looked at his passport, looked at him, then told him to "go on", the entire encounter lasted a minute at the most. She didn't even ask about a return ticket, he said the only words she said to him were "go on". Her attitude scared him a little but everything went smoothly!

good luck! :) Perhaps Tim Hortons Tim Bits would help with the customs officer. ;) I'd bring that too!

Well, my fiance and I are in sunny cold Iowa. Border guys weren't even interested in the dogs rabies papers. When you cross from Victoria BC to Port Angeles in Washington state you go through the grilling on the US side. The guys are somewhat under shelter but it was 4 pm, freezing cold, blowing rain. The officer asked where we lived, how we met and then how long I was going for. When I told him 2 and a half months he actually groaned. Then he looked through the rain at the toolbox in my truck box, asked what I do for a living (landscaper) and if I was carrying anything he should know about and then told us to go on through. So, for what it's worth the guys on Vancouver Island do definitely seem to be more low key.

Has any one had the experience of Dallas Texas as POE?

I am visiting in July this year and my BF is eager to submit the I-129F Petition but i'm not sure if we should wait until after the visit.

My sister lives in the US so entry will not be a problem if its not submitted. its a tight connection and I don't want to be delayed.

I will be visiting with my whole entire family (mum dad and three siblings) Not sure if that will help or hinder!!

It honestly comes down to the customs officer, not the PoE. Just bring multiple ties to home and you'll be fine.

Unfortunately I don't really have any. I live with my parents and work for my father. So on the upside my boss will be present to say I will be returning to work but due to the close relationship do you think they will have a problem...?

so it would only be my return flight and bank statements (which won't prove much because I have already sent my lifes savings over to my BF when the exchange rate was higher)

How long are you planning on staying? Are you able to find ways to prove your ties back to Sweden in case you are asked (since you're not working, maybe a lease/mortgage, bank statements, etc.)?

I visited the US with our k1 in progress last month and had no issues- I brought a pile of documentation just in case, but none of it was asked for.

I'm not going yet for some time cuz need us passport for baby and stuff but at some point it would be nice to visit since my fiancé can't take too much time off work to come here all the time.

I rent a floor at my parents at the moment to save up money but we can of course sign a rental lease. I have loan at bank and bank statements of money in and out, taxes and so on. If I'm going I guess I stay for a month or so, all depending on when I get noa 2, interview, medical exam and all other stuff.

A little worried since we have a baby togheter and if they consider that as a higher risk that I would stay or something. Like we would go thru all this to mess it up with me staying!! Lol.. Been there lots of times already and never overstayed or nothing.

I had my brother drop me at Buffalo airport and I was sitting on the passenger side of the car. We got to peace bridge in Niagara Boarder and crossed with no problem.

Officer: Where are you heading?

Me: Off to vegas

Officer: How long?

Me: 2 months

Officer: Why so long of a visit?

Me: I got extended vacation from work

Officer: Open the trunk for me please

Brother: Pressed the trunk button (officer went and checked the trunk and closed the trunk)

Officer: Well have a nice vacation. and then gave us back our passports.

That was it

First Post!

I too was really worried about whether I would be able to travel to the US after submitting for the K-1 - turns out I had nothing to be worried about! Currently in my last semester at university, so brought with me letters from my professor, and school as well as a copy of our NOA1. I've been travelling to the US about 5-6 times per year (1-3 weeks a time) for two years, and did 4 months there on a J-1 last summer as a background to my situation.

Flew into JFK Terminal 4 from London Heathrow

Officer: Are your travelling on your ESTA or J-1 visa?

Me: Travelling on ESTA, the J-1 visa was from last summer

Officer: Ok *clicked on his screen, stamped passport and took fingerprints* Have a safe trip hon

Easy as that! Hope this helps :-)
