Hi,

I flew into JFK yesterday from Germany. I was an Au Pair one year (J1 Visa), an exchange student and intern in the US. So all in all I had already 3 J1 Visa and lived already 2 years in the US. I usually fly into Newark or JFK.

I came back to visit my fiance now the 3rd time ( always 6 weeks) in 2 years. I never had to get a secondary - they sometimes just asked me a bit more and sometimes nothing. I am always

honest and prepared with a lot of evidence but I never had to show it. Yesterday all I was asked was :

Are you here for vacation ? No (I dont know why I said no) I am visiting.

Who are you visitin? : My fiance.

How did you meet? : We went to school together

When was your last time in the US? : Christmas

How long did you stay? : 6 weeks

How long will you stay? : 6 weeks

Okay - have a good time and welcome

I kinda have a better experience with jfk but newark is ok too.

My fiance is coming to stay with me while we wait for the NOA2 (we're thinking around two months) and I'm concerned about if he can get through or not. He'll be quitting work, he doesn't rent, and is buying a one way ticket because we've been planning to go back to Canada together so I can meet his family, and attend the interview with him. I'm going to send him the copy of our package, but will that and bank statements be enough? Is there anything else you guys can think of that could establish ties? A phone bill, maybe?

If not, do you guys think we'll be okay?

I would not recommend buying a one way ticket - he will quite likely be refused entry. That will be a 'red flag' that he intends to remain in the US. If he was from a VWP country, he would actually be required to have a return ticket

Does he have a car? Insurance on it? Registration? A phone contract may be good.

No car, no insurance. But even with the phone contract and bank statements, with a one-way, you think he will be denied?

I could never say whether or not someone would be denied entry. However, a one way ticket is a red flag to immigration.

I can only talk from my experience flying from the UK where a return ticket is required if you are flying using the WVP. For flights from the UK, a return ticket is cheaper than a one way ticket anyway.

From other countries where you fly using a visa, rather than flying without a visa as with the VWP, the rules may be different.

Hi guy's,

Great thread, very informative.

After reading I've become a little concerned now as I've visited my girlfriend now 5 times and have 3 more trips planned this year but have never carried any proof of ties to my country or of my finances. So my question is, what information do I need to carry in case the questions are asked...I generally just show evidence of my return flight.

All info would be great.

Id say hes 75% going to get refused entry with a one way ticket :(

A return flight is excellent proof! But also a letter from your employer saying when your expected back at work, a tenancy agreement is also helpful.

Thanks Azsara, thats great advice.

I read the footer of your message, "Your Story," and just wanted to say that you and yours met in very similar way that I met my girlfriend. It's nice to know that there are couples on here moving along succuessfully with the process that have circumstances like us.

Hope everything goes well.

Hrrm I see. Well I've never been on a plane before and I'm really hoping we can go together. I guess if we don't get our NOA2 until I fly up there, that's okay as I can have it copied and forwarded.

If you guys have any ideas let me know. I'll let you all know how it goes. (:

Aww really? very cool ! Its not easy but we are almost there! Once the time lines are up and running again you should create a time line so every one can see where abouts you are in the process!

Hey guys, quick question. We filed for a K-1 visa and still waiting for our NOA2. Her B1/B2 visa is about to expire and I want her to visit me during the summer for a month. Should I fill out DS-160 form or DS-156 (for K1 applicants) to extend her B2 visa? I think DS-160, but I need to double check.

Thanks!!

Yes, our plans have changed. It's pretty silly to me, but I can see their hesitation at POE. He's going to visit me with a round trip, and I'm not going back to Canada with him. This sort of thing is what's most frustrating of all of this. The government has the last say in everything, regardless.

It's going to be horrible when he leaves yet again. But I'll tell you guys how it goes anyway.
