Just to let you know that I got in successfully at Chicago O'Hare. Really long queue for passport control and took about 75 minutes to get to the head of it (my fiancé was going spare and my US mobile couldn't get a signal).

Was asked why I was coming to the US - I said vacation. I was asked who I was staying with - I said 'fiancé'. She asked when we were getting married and I said 'Once all the paperwork is finished and I got back for the medical and interview'. She mentioned that I had stayed the whole 90 days last time. I said I knew but I had a ticket for two weeks this time. She asked to see my return ticket and then stamped my passport to leave by 1 July anyway - so still the 90 days.

Good to hear they let you into the country. I still wonder if it's that easy to get in after the petition was approved.

Possibly not but once we have our NOA2 and I know our petition is in the UK, I will be less concerned about travelling.

Anyone had any luck visiting the US from Canada for around 5 months while waiting for the NOA2. I'll have to quit my job (which I hate anyway lol), but will evidence of bank loans, accounts, etc be enough? I could get a letter from my "landlord", but he is just a friend I stay with. I pay rent but there was no lease etc. I'll also be bringing my pets with me, will this raise red flags? I wouldn't want to be away from them that long.

Thanks!

My NOA1 date is October 25th - I flew into JFK airport two days ago for a visit April 7th - May 13th.

No hassle whatsoever. Didn't even have to show a return ticket. I don't think they have a record of my K1 application at POE at all.

So glad! I was really worried it would be a problem. I'm a VSC filer, so I'm hoping my fiance and I hear good news whilst I'm here :)

I can't give advice on Canada as I'm from the UK but bringing your pets may raise red flags. If it is a dog, maybe not so much. But I do know someone who had real problems coming to the US with cats.

I also rent a room from a friend - she just provided me with a letter says when my rent was paid up to and that all my personal items were still in my room. I also bought a rent book from a shop and she completed that for me. It wasn't needed but at least I knew I had it on me.

Great that you got in with no hassle. I do wonder what they can and can't see at POE. It may just be our travel. Have a great time in the US.

Don't know if it's helpful to people - but I just wanted to add into this thread how easy I found it to visit by entering the land border at Niagara.

Flew from the UK to Toronto where my USC fiance met me. We then drove back into the States through Niagara - I brought bags of evidence with me to show ties to the UK, but didn't need a single thing. They just asked what our relationship to each other is - we said we're "together", and then I just filled in the usual I-94, paid the $6 land crossing fee and that was it! Went on to spend a happy 3 months with him there.

Definitely didn't seem like anything at all came up on the computer - hardly surprising as I don't think the land borders are very computerised anyway - you don't need an ESTA to cross them as I guess they haven't got the system running "on land" yet.

I fly out to the US tomorrow so I've just got a few last questions I'd like to run by you guys before I go.

1. When first asked where I'll be staying, what is the best answer? Should I say the exact address, just the town, or "with my fiancé"?

I know not to offer up more information than asked for, so I'm not sure what would be the most fitting answer.

2. I think I've got all my ties to the UK sorted now, but I thought of something else I could bring. I don't have a job at the moment, but I do have a few recent emails along the lines of "Thanks for your application, someone will be in touch" and "Sorry you've not been successful". They're pretty generic, but would it be a good idea to print a few of these out to show that although I may not have a job in the UK, I am looking?

Thanks. :)

1. You have already declared the address that you are staying at - it's a requirement when travelling to the US and you will have also completed it on the customs form. If I am asked where I am staying, I say the city that I'm staying in. In my case that's Geneva (IL). If I am asked who I am staying with, then I say 'my fiance'.

BTW - I now realize why the customs officer asked me more questions when looking at my customs form in Dec (it didn't occur to me until I had to complete the same form this time). It was because the address I'm staying at is an apartment and, therefore, likely to be a private residence. That, in combination with saying I was bringing in 2 t-shirts to leave in the US, was what brought about the questions. I think if it had said the name of a hotel, there might have been no questions.

2. I am not working (was made redundant in November) and I am not actively seeking work as I keep hoping that each new day will bring my NOA2 (8.5 months and waiting). What I did was send e-mails to a couple of recruitment agencies saying that I was seeking temp work (which I would have done). I then printed out those e-mails to show that I planned on coming back. I think printing your evidence that you are seeking work in the UK may be a good idea. If you've registered with the job seeking website, why not print a screenshot showing your profile?

I do realize that I over think all this (my fiance accuses me of that). But, for me, it is about having the backup on me to prove that I have to go back to the UK. It makes me feel less nervous going through passport control and customs.

Good luck! Please post here when you get into the US tomorrow.

1. Ah, thanks for clearing that up. I'd forgot about the customs form.

2. I'll get a couple printed out then, and I've got a couple of profiles too. I'll get to work on that.

I know what you mean about over thinking it, I think I've gone through every possible scenario in my head. My fiance keeps telling me to stop worrying but I would rather know I have enough evidence with me just in case I get questioned. I don't think I would have had the guts to make this journey if I hadn't found this topic, it's been a big help in preparing.

And thanks! I'll post back as soon as I can, it will probably be Sunday as I don't get into Houston until late tomorrow.

I know what you mean. Our lawyer told us that I must not travel back to the US after we had submitted our petition. It was this topic which gave me the confidence to 1) confront our lawyer 2) to travel back to the US two further times.

Got in at Atlanta with absolutely no problems, just asked what the purpose of my visit was, who I was staying with, for how long and that was it, I was in. Didn't even have to show a return ticket!
