Ok, thought I would share our experience trying to get a B2 visa today for my Fiancee. She had her interview at the consulate in Vladivostok, she brought with her the proof of property (she owns a house and a car), the passport showing several trips to other countries vacationing, and she has good employment. They looked this over and denied her the visa...reason: "you are waiting on the K1 visa and if you go on vacation with your tourist visa, you could have problems getting the k1 visa". I do not see this written anywhere as a valid reason to refuse a B2 visa...??!!!???

Just wanted to share my fiance's experience. Gareth arrived in Boston last Friday. He didn't have any problems. Usual questions. Who are you visiting? Where does she live? Where does she work? How long are you staying? Enjoy your visit! Sounds like Boston is a great POE.

this is probably a ridiculous question, but I figured it won't hurt to ask..

so I just recently sent my I129F packet..but I was curious. has anyone ever had their fiance come into the US after you sent the packet and just have the fiance stay here?

Hey guys :star:

I spontaneously decided to visit my fiance in the US on Monday, while we are still waiting for our NOA2. I will be staying until sometime in March. We are not expecting our NOA2 until April.

I was wondering what documents I need in case they want some kind of proof of strong ties to my home country. Of course I have my plane ticket...what else could I take along? I don't have a car or job here in Germany. Any ideas? :help:

Hey guys :)

I didn't get a reply to my post, but I still want to share my experience with those who are planning a visit while waiting for their NOA2.

I arrived in Tennessee last night  My POE was Newark. Now the story:

I was on my way to the back of the line (immigrations) when a officer wanted to see my customs declaration form and passport :o

He asked: When was the last time you were in the US? and how long are you staying this time?

I answered his questions and he told me to walk past the queue and took me to one of the immigration officers and the two started asking me questions: How much money are you traveling with? Are you visiting friends or family? Who exactly are you visting? When was the last time you were in the US, arrival and departure date, are you still in college?...I answered all questions truthfully and told them that I'm going to see my fiance.

They took my fingerprints and photo as usual and told me to follow them to the office. They kept my passport and told me to sit down and wait...I waited in a room with about 5 other people until a young woman called me to her desk.

...man, I stood there for 30 minutes and answered what felt like a thousand questions....

Who are you visiting? Why are you staying for almost 3 months? When are you done with college? -> I mentioned the K1 visa and that I want to go to college in the US once we are approved. Wedding plans? Name and birthday of my fiance, what does he do for a living? When and under which circumstances did you meet? Date of my flight back home and so on.

I can't remember every single question she asked but like I said, I stood there for 30 minutes :wow:

I wasn't very nervous because I knew I'm not doing anything I'm not supposed to. The officers were all very friendly so answering their questions wasn't too big of a deal

I think as long as you answer all questions truthfully, you can show some ties to your home country and you don't get tangled up in contradictions, there's no need to worry even if they take you to the office for further questioning.

I'm beyond happy to be back with my love and our puppy :) I missed them so much!

Good luck to all of you who are planning a visit :star: :star: :star:

My visits have gone like this:

Adam lives in Derby, England. I, Michele, live in Detroit MI. We filed our I-129F April 12, 2007.

November 3, 2006 - November 13, 2006:

Adam visits me for the first time. He entered at the Detroit Metropolitan Airport, and was asked simply his reason for visit (visit a friend), where he was staying (hotel), length of visit (ten days), and to see his itinerary showing his flight back home. No proof of ties to England requested. Welcome to America.

January 3, 2007 - January 22, 2007

Adam visits for second time, entering again at Detroit, MI. Asked same questions, answered 'reason for visit' this time as 'to be with my girlfriend' and was told he can't marry me while he's here, that would be a violation. Adam assures officer he won't. Asked how he could afford to visit again so soon, replied 'using student loan money'. No proof of ties to England requested. Welcome to America.

February 13, 2007 - February 20, 2007.

Michele goes to England. Depart Detroit, arrive at Gatwick, UK. Asked reason for visit (visit boyfriend), length of visit (one week), and where I'd be staying (hotel). I too was told sternly I couldn't marry Adam while I was there. Promised I wouldn't. No proof of anything requested. Welcome to England!

February 21, 2007 - Current (Adam will leave May 20, 2007)

Adam arrives at Detroit MI. Was asked usual 'reason for visit, length of visit' questions. Answered 'to see girlfriend, 3 months'. Was asked about his employment and housing in England, answered that he left his job but it was being held for when he gets back, and that he lives with his mother. Officer apparently thinks something fishy, converses with several other officers, Adam ends up in 'interview room'. Was asked same questions, answered same truthfully. Was asked to describe Michele, how we met, what Michele does for a living. Customs calls Michele at work and asks if Michele knows Adam, what is relationship to him, etc. Answered yes, he's my boyfriend. Call ends. Luggage searched, and laptop plugged in to read emails we've sent back and forth. Officers satisifed we knew each other. Passport stamped, approved for full three month visit. Was advised again not to get married while here (yeah, we know!) Side note, as Adam was leaving, one guard asked the other "so that guy is okay?" Other guard answers, "yeah, he's just in love." No "proof" of ties was requested. Questions were asked, but no paper produced. Welcome to America.

interesting story,,,

My daughter has visited her fiance in the US once since having begun this process. She brought with her paystubs, an employment letter (even though she's only a temp and it states this), tax returns, a copy of our lease (she's on it as a co-tennant), and information about where she was staying and contact information for him. She also had non-refundable return plane tickets. The border at Fort Erie Ontario (Peace Bridge) was where she crossed because she was flying out of Buffalo International. The only thing the customs official asked her to do in addition to always having this paperwork with her was to have her passport stamped by Canadian customs when she returned from her trips so that she could prove that she was returning when she said she would.

Having all possible paperwork at hand (tons of it) was very helpful and showed them that she was prepared. She did not have a copy of her fiance's petition and has not been asked for it. She's crossed into the US twice now. Once to go shopping with me and this last trip to spend Christmas and New Years with her fiance.

Well, it allll depends on the guard you deal with at the border!

I went down with my fiance, with a bunch of stuff, to visit him for a few days. I had the paper to get my car across the border (i'm canadian) and asked the guard if that was the correct paper I needed, and he said yes, my fiance explained that i'm his fiance, im coming down, dropping some of my stuff off, then going home back to canada, in a week or whatever it was. NO PROBLEM.

I go down a few weeks later, with my car loaded with my stuff. I was going to go stay for a few months. (my fiances father had just been in a bad accident and I was going to go help his parents out for a few months) And then when I got notice of my NOA2, I was going to fly back home and go through with that.

At the border, they asked the usual questions, where you're going, how long, etc.

And then told me to come inside. I filled out more paperwork...where I live, my work, etc etc.

And then I was taken into a room, and told that I was 'denied entry' into the USA because they didn't think I was coming back to Canada. EVER.

SO. IF you have a job still, or a plane ticket back, you MAY be allowed in, but they are picky! Or it depends on who you deal with!

Good luck, it sucks now because i've been fingerprinted and aren't allowed back into the states until I get my visa :(

Good luck!

My NOA2 will not come until March or end of February, they say the work on application from 17th July these days. Our NOA1 was on 8th August so I decided I will go and visit my fiance next month since I want to spend my birthday with my love. What must the letter from my boss say and my landlady? I don't pay any bills except from gym and I have a bank account. (Water and electricity bills are in the rent so I don't pay that)

I would suggest that the letter from your boss says that you have a permanent job (although we realize you will be giving that up eventually), have taken paid/unpaid holiday and are expected back at work on aa date.

The landlady's letter should state the terms of your rental agreement and when your rent is paid up to. If you also have a rent book, it might be useful to bring that.

I wasn't asked for anything when I came in on 1 December at Chicago but I did have a folder with everything in it that showed I had ties to the UK just in case.
