Hi fellow VJers looking for some info/advice please....

We just got our NOA 1 and I'm planning to visit my USC fiancé in November for 2 weeks. Obviously this will be before we get NOA 2, will be flying into Dallas airport and just wondered if others had passed through there at the same point in the process and could tell me how they got on. I know that ultimately it depends on who I get on the day but was just wondering about others experiences.

Thanks for your help.

Good luck and best wishes to you all!!

After ringing the London Embassy and someone answering the phone but having another conversation of their own with their collegue (so rude!) I hung up and rang again, to only get through to another person who clearly got out the wrong side of the bed... She gave me a number to call which have people who specialize in answering visa questions. I rang it asked whether or not I can visit whilst my K1 visa is pending because I know it is a grey area, and a gentlement (they seem to be nicer once you get past the actual embassy operators <_<) told me that you are able to visit but may be questioned at the port of entry and basically you need to prove to them that you will return to your country after your visit.

so....yeah :)

Not using the word fiancé is probably why you had no trouble. Usually, not always, I get questioned as soon as I say the word 'fiancé'

Been to the US 4x to visit him since he moved back home

Since my now-husband put in the I-129F petition in August 24, 2011, I visited him 3 times and had no problems whatsoever. Here's my timeline:

December 18, 2011, Sea-Tac Airport

To prepare for this visit, I asked my employer to write a letter verifying my employment and return in January, 2012. This was in a sealed envelope. I also brought with me my contract, lease (translated into English), round-trip itinerary, and a copy of the I-129F packet. The officer did ask me what the purpose of my visit was and I honestly told him it was to spend my winter break with my fiance. He didn't ask further questions and I entered without any problems. After picking up my luggage, the officer there wanted to check my customs form and he asked the same question about the purpose of my visit, so I gave him my honest answer. He smiled and asked where my K1 visa was and I replied that we had put in the petition and was waiting for it to be approved. I stayed in the States until the 29th.

January 21, 2012, Detroit Airport

Once again, I brought with me the sealed letter of employment, contract, original lease and translated version, round-trip itinerary, and a copy of the I-129F packet. The officer did not question my responses about visiting my fiance nor asked to see any of the documents I had prepared. I stayed in the States until the 28th.

April 13, 2012, Sea-Tac Airport

I had the sealed letter of employment, contract, original lease and translated version, round-trip itinerary, and a copy of the I-129F packet. Again, the officer did not ask to see these even when I mentioned the word, "fiance." I stayed until the 16th.

July 8, 2012, Sea-Tac Airport

I entered with my K1 visa. I had the big packet from the Embassy, copy of the I-129F packet, and copy of everything I had submitted to the Embassy (the originals were in the big packet). I entered with a one way ticket. At the initial entry, the officer congratulated me and asked me to wait in the area before claiming luggage. It was a busy day, so I waited for about 40 minutes until a different officer helped me. He took the big packet from the Embassy, congratulated me, and stamped my passport. He flipped through the packet once he opened it but didn't ask my any questions. He reminded me that the K1 visa is a single entry and asked if I had questions for him.

My experiences were positive and smooth, in fact, much better than before we started the process! One summer, I was questioned because I was staying for two months (summer break) and the initial officer was worried that I was going to overstay. However, once they checked my records and saw that they were super clean, the officer let me in :). So my guess is that if your stay is long, officers might get suspicious, but if your stay is short (all my visits after submitting the I-129F were within two weeks), you should be fine. However, be on the safe side and do bring proof that you have strong ties to the country you are visiting from.

Hey :)

Just chiming in ;) My fiance landed on Saturday for a month long visit, first through JFK airport, then a transfer to LAX.

Everything went great!! He said that the officials at JFK were polite, with minimal questions asked, such as his purpose for the visit.

He did bring documents showing ties to his home country, however he was not asked to produce them :)

This is our first experience of travel between countries since filing the K1, and it's gone well.

Just an update. My fiance arrived on the 20th at Boston Logan Intl Airport. He flew Manchester, England to Dublin, Ireland for pre-clearance, but they didn't do it so he had to clear here in Boston. This is his second trip since sending the I129F. The officer asked what his purpose of the visit was. He said visiting his fiance. He said he usually travels with his kids but they were spending 2 weeks with their mum and he wanted to come over to work on plans for the wedding, move, etc. The officer asked how long we'd been waiting for our second notice from USCIS. Alan said we filed in Feb and the officer seemed surprised it took so long. He asked how long he was staying for, said 2 weeks and then had to be back to get the kids from their mum's (they live with him and we're planning to have them move as well). The officer wished us luck in our plans and told him to have a nice trip. Nice, easy and he never had to show any proof of anything.

In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.

Initially filed for K1 visa - Feb 23 2012

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we've abandoned this application

We married on Aug 24, 2013 in a small ceremony in MA

We'll be applying for a CR1 / IR1 visa as soon as we are able

Hey all, just wanted to throw my scenario in!

Currently in the middle of a K1 journey! They received our pack towards the end of March, still no reply :( , after not seeing my girl since March I literally can't take it any more so I'm booking tickets out to see her in September, I know it's a risk but I've seen enough information on here to suggest that if I turn up really prepared and have a letter from my employer as well as a proof of my flight home and a copy of my visa application, hopefully it'll go ok

I'm a little worried they'll judge me on my age (we are both 22), but hopefully they will see we are legit, been together for 2 years, and the visa process is taking so long that I just cant not see my girlfriend anymore!

Yep, I have two jobs and intend to get written letters from both, as well as pay stubs, proof of address and the visa documents, I'm aiming to arrive in Newark on the 22nd September in the evening!

Do I need to apply for a visa waiver?
