So i have filed a petition for my Wife (I-130) with a priority date of May 10, 2018. However, I may move here in the next month to next few months and i was wondering what the process of changing the address was like. I asked around and people ( Immigration attorney and I-130 Preparers) have said that the mail will go to the original address for period of 9 months before getting a "welcome Letter." Not sure what this means. Does it really take 9 months to change the address and receive mail at the new address?? Also, my current address is what i put as the expected address where my wife will be living after entering the USA. Would this be a problem?

There is no requirement to change your address with USCIS during the petition approval process.  Just make sure you have your mail forwarded.  Use any new address(s) in the second round of paperwork during the NVC stage.

If you want to change your address on USCIS records, do it by phone, then keep following-up until they can read your correct new address back to you from their records.  It might take multiple tries

Just got off the phone with USCIS. They stated that anytime a citizen moves, you are required to update the address and the Post Office will NOT forward USCIS mail. They recommended calling them or filling out AR-11 online to change the address. They also stated that it is a known issue where the mail will still go to the old address. which is just ridiculous.

The misinformation line strikes again.  The Post Office definitely WILL forward USCIS mail.  There was a time when they didn't but they have been for more than a decade.  AR 11 is for "ALIEN change of address".

I know it's a little late but for prosperity in case someone else in a similar situation reads this, at the time we filed my wife was living with me in Australia and listed her residential address as our Australian address. We did however list our mailing address as her parent's address which is in the USA so no postal delays.
