I read the story and it left me questioning if this is a bit of scare news (aka not 100% fake, but stretching the truths with some misdirection to make people worried/scared)  I would also question the publication that posted the story, they do not appear to be mainstream.....just my thoughts.

Very good point. It came up on my Google newsfeed and I just copied and pasted the link. To be fair, I've read articles about immigration stories where the writer clearly did NOT know anything. Example: an article about a couple where the foreign spouse got arrested by ICE at their GC interview. Article said the interview was the first step in the process. 😒

I'll try to see if I can find better sources about this.

I think it uses extreme cases, at least one fake case, and race-baiting simply as a hit piece aimed at Trump........

Were any of these people deported?  or did they get notices to appear?

Hahahaha! I always love your comments. 100% honesty, I am not a fan of the current admin BUT I also don't like how some people (especially on this forum) blame their immigration woes on the Prez. It's always been a tough process and USCIS and all the national security agencies have never been here to "play nice".

I think the "cases" in the article are just examples to illustrate potential scenarios with the new changes.

Upon a quick superficial Google search, these "expansions of power" within the immigration agencies have been happening and changing since last year.

Really? Y'all are on the side of USCIS and ICE now? You've never heard of files getting lost in the gigantic USCIS black hole, or mail from them getting lost - especially after address changes?? Not to mention letters getting lost due to USPS (another black hole if you've ever had to deal with them). Odd... Also, work-related visas/green cards are a whole other story, I know this is a mostly family-based forum, but still - most should know how complicated they are even without merger/acquisition stuff, so yeah, to me this isn't as simple as "don't commit crimes and you'll be fine" because many things can be out of your control and your entire life is ruined. Remember, some people work here, paying taxes, for over 10 years, patiently waiting for a green card, not everyone gets it in 12 months through marriage.

Without getting political, the vibe around immigrants hasn't exactly been the friendliest lately.

No sides...just pointing out that there's nothing of particular concern here for people following the law. The examples provided are either extremes or unrealistic, and it only gives them discretion to pursue removal...not a mandate to do so nor recognizing the ability for CoR to be successful because one actually has a strong case.

Edit: For reference, at least one of the examples noted applies to my situation. I'm still not concerned.

Honestly, it's really not that extreme or unrealistic if it's YOU that it's happening to. It's just one more thing to worry about on top of everything else, especially for those who are already living under the "taxation without representation" paradigm for many years. Family-based will probably remain OK.

Let me ask you this.... how do you feel about the illegals coming into the country freely and demanding right and citizenship when each and every one of us have spent large amounts of time, money, heartache and tears trying to get thru the immigration system the legal way, to me this is a slap in all of our faces.

Right...this is not about the "illegals" though. As a side note, I am yet to see an "illegal" demanding much of anything.

Of course I am taking it to heart given how much USCIS can (removed) up and you can end up in a lot of trouble through no fault of your own.

Look, I am not going to get into an all night debate about this but I have seen plenty of illegals demanding and I am sure alot of other members on here have seen it too, just turn on the tv...... daca comes to mind!

i hate to tell you this but USCIS, NVC, the embassy, the local police, the IRS all have the ability to mess you up, it is up to you to be vigilant and stay on top of things to make sure your paperwork, requests for documents and follow up’s are taken care of. Stop trying to blame USCIS, the post office and anyone else, this is you’re reaponsability, no one elses.

sorry if I come accross rude but this is the truth.

Great, I'll make sure to self-deliver my USPS from now on, otherwise I'm not responsible enough >.<

Any suggestions for how to tackle files getting lost and/or being sent to another field office with no trace? Maybe I could plant a GPS in my papers next time. But what happens when the battery runs out?

DACA is a very complicated matter, I'm very envious you have a firm opinion on it. I have gone back and forth on it myself many times but I believe most people can at least acknowledge it's kids (or at least people brought as kids) we're talking about here. Don't worry about being rude, go ahead, I'm definitely used to it. This country was founded by immigrants looking for better lives, so sad to see what it has become.

I hope your spouse doesn't have cancer :(

But so if one really gets a Notice to Appear, does this in itself already mean the end? I mean one still gets a hearing before a judge?

Immigrants are more than welcome and are very well accepten in our country as long as they follow the rules and come here legally, daca is not complicated, it is an illegal program by obama and even he admitted it was illegal.

USCIS has a customer service phone number and a website you can self track you case

NVC has a customer service phone number you can call from 7 am until 12 midnight and a website

it looks to me like you just want to blame everone else for any issues you either have or possibly could have, take responsability for your own actions and future. The rest of us that have dealth with immigration have sucessfully done it, why are you having difficulties?

maybe if you are having problems you should try asking questions to improve your sisuation you are having instead of trying to lay blame. You say lost papers due to address changes, case transfered, have you filed change of address paperwork with the post office? Have you called USCIS to inquire abour your case?

there are alot of very smart members on this site that would be more than willing to help you.
