Hello, I filed for my fiance in Colombia... and I'm so looking forward to have her here in the states, we filed earlier in July, and I received a receipt stating they had the application on July 23rd on the letter and when I go online and punch in the case for status it states they received the i129F on July 24th.

My guess is now that in about 265-275 days she will be called for an interview in Bogota at the consulate.  Assuming all moves ahead smoothly will there be any updates or steps too look for before then or just wait for that?

I'm hoping that I will be allowed to fly there and join her (from Michigan) to show my commitment.  I'm having a very hard time with the distance and I really want this to go right the first time through. I would do anything to expedite this process!!!

Due to my background and us both having prior marriages I hired a law firm to insure correct papers were filed for some grey areas.

I believe we started off on the right foot and should not have any errors, and I submitted alot of trip info/supporting relationship info so I think it should go smoothly.

By the time our interview comes around we will have at least two more trips and more time together to share in the meeting.

I wish you all the best, and I hope you are all pleasantly surprised!

Thanks for any insight!

Errr
I don't want to be the bearer of bad news:

2) NOA2 is taking an average of 200 days. That's 6.5+ months. No one is getting NOA2 in 4 months. 180 days is the earliest I have seen lately but some of y'all should buckle down for 220+ days unless USCIS changes things (which is hopefully going to happen)
3) You wait about 14 days at NVC to begin calling. Anything before time really is a waste of time. But that timeline really is 12 days to 6 weeks.

For steps 4-7, that's embassy specific.
When you get NOA2, then check with your specific country on what the steps are. I say that because for some countries like Canada, you don't do anything until they contact you. For others like nigeria, you do everything yourself.
but the general idea is correct- Get Case Number, Fill out DS-160, Do medical, do interview.

Good luck guys!

So basically she will get a Noa2 case number around Mid April (my best guess - about 260 days out);

After Noa2 how long typically to the interview at the consulate assuming Medical and Ds-160 are completed quickly?

I believe they are sending an arbitrary date at some point to state the date and time for the interview,? but probably after NOA2 and DS-160 submission?

Lastly, I see from above it is 12 days to 16 weeks for them to "begin calling" I assume that is to schedule the interview? Or?  I had assumed there would not be any flexibility on the interview date but maybe the call to confirm the date and any required documents for the meeting?

Lastly, from the interview it takes roughly 7-14 days before she gets the visa papers to travel to the states? or do they basically approve you on the spot at the interview and you can travel then?

In other words how much time from the Interview to hitting U.S. soil?

Thanks for any insight...

Don,

So baby steps first.
Once you get NOA2, this website breaks things down on how to proceed: https://sites.google.com/view/post-noa2/home

Now, what EVERYBODY ought to realize is that after NOA2, you are on ur own. No 2 cases are the same. There is NO timeline for when you can hit US soil because so many things can impact your timeline.
An ESTIMATE for a lot of people is that after NOA2, you can expect visa/POE between 2-3 months. That's assuming you have an embassy that runs smoothly, and you have no issues after the interview with administrative processing (AP).

Potential Timelines:
2-6 weeks at NVC for Case number (Basically, after you get NOA2, you can call NVC starting at 2 weeks to get case number. Link above breaks that down)
1-2 weeks for medical (many embassies require that your medical results are in before you can schedule interview. I've seen medical results to be anywhere from 5 days to 2 weeks)

2-4 weeks to get interview (this is the FASTEST timeline. If you have an busy embassy, like some folks in Mexico, you might want to look at 6+ weeks for interviews)

3-15 days after interview to receive Visa

That's again assuming everything goes well.

Every embassy is different. Some, like Canada, you MUST wait for them to do everything for you (which makes their timelines much longer)
Others like mine, you do everything yourself once your case is Ready at NVC.

Also, please update your timeline. It helps everybody else know what is happening and makes it easier down the road for people here in VJ like myself to help better answer your questions. Knowing your embassy and the dates you file for things can help us give you better advice.

Goodluck and let me know if you have any other questions

Hey guys, we sent ours in on July 16...haven't heard anything back yet but the USPS tracking said someone signed for it on the 30th so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we'll hear something soon. We originally sent a petition out in early October 2017 but it disappeared into the abyss (fiance was a bit too excited and didn't use registered mail or a tracking number like I told him to) so I'm trying not to worry that it's happening again

So apparently they couldn't find the cheque so they sent the entire thing back to us...not sure how my fiance sent it to them but the cheque was still in the package they sent back to us... guess we will be sending it express with the cheque plastered with some neon arrows to the front of the document 😑On the bright side, it looks like we have a case number! Which is farther than we've ever gotten so far! 🤗

Hey everyone! Quick message looking for kind, encouraging words.

I'm with my fiance in the USA now. I came to visit after filing the K1 (yes, we are allowed to visit). We're now 2 moths into the process and I'm feeling a bit scared. We'll be having our interview in the Argentinian consulate and I've just read a review of someone saying that they saw two couples leaving the consulate in tears. I have no information about them or their situation, but you guys know what this is like. No matter how well I know we've done veerything, the thought of being rejected is always there.

Any uplifting messages?

Thanks in advance and happy waiting!

Amen, true!! It has been a hard battle for me as I made an error on my appl and praying that the added documents that I sent after the fact were attached to the file. All we can do at this point is hope that we have no issues and that everything goes smoothly. Good luck to you, this thread seems to be dead lol.

1) U sent documents AFTER ur application? that was not a good idea

2) Thread is dead because USCIS is only processing about March applications. by end of November, I expect y'all to pick up

3) Please update ur timeline

1) Yes, USCIS told me to submit them since when they received the added papers it was only three days after they received my package.

2) Ok, does this mean that approvals will start happening or that our month will start being looked at?

3) Thank you.

1) Okay good- U didn't send documents without contacting them first.

2) No - I only meant that by November, then people in this forum will begin to get excited because ur time is APPROACHING. Probably you can expect ur month to be looked at around December or so

Thanks Emekus94, I also have another question, what are the chances of a file being looked at earlier than others? Does this happen by chance or luck , does this ever happen and if so what influences this happening?

I appreciate your input and help.

U're asking a tough question

A short answer - there's no such thing as a case being looked at earlier

BUT-- we have seen in the past USCIS "skipping" lines of some sorts.
Happened with November 2017 filers. Some random days in November 2017 got approvals when July 2017 people were being looked at.
We all thought perhaps USCIS was trying to keep their average times down.

But it's hard to say.
I wouldn't hold my breath on cases being looked at earlier
But only time can tell. USCIS has a mind of it's own.
